G'day
G'day
I am a mechanic by trade but I haven't spun many spanners lately. I work as a foreman at a fabrication shop where we make truck bodies for Ergon,
custom racecar trailers, and plate alloy boats.
Years ago I had '63 Baja Bug which was an awesome little toy. Now I am restoring my father-in-law's Kombis. He has a '76 dual cab with a mildly
worked aircooled in it. Twin Dellortos, 2.1L(ish), etc. He also has a '77 van with a blown up/burnt motor.
Our plan is to restore the '77 van as the body on it is pretty good and to put an EJ22 Suby into it. Then fit it out as a mild camper.
Once the van is done we will pull the DC off the road and rebuild the motor, fix all the sins from a previous respray and get it painted to match the
van.
We just bought a complete '92 Liberty wreck to get the motor from to use for the van's conversion so work should start on it pretty soon.
I'll probably start a few threads over in the non-VW forum to check on a few details in regards to the Suby swap if I run into any dramas. I plan on
photographing and documenting the build so there will be a build thread too.
Anyway I hope to chat with you guys about these cool rigs and one day after I finish doing the two for my FIL I might even try to build a pop-top bay
with a new Subaru diesel mated to a flipped Suby 4wd box and a front diff, all done Baja Kombi style.
Cheers
Mick
