Ive got new window rubber scrubbers for my 71 1302s ..... anyone know how to remove the felt window channels so I can get at the old scrubbers. Cant

the felt channel or better known as bailey channel is held in place by half a dozen or so metal clips with teeth that grip them
They just pull out of them but if they've gone rock hard which the tend to do after 39 years they can put up a fight
Once its out you'll need to remove the clips, theyre what help hold in the outter trim and scraper.
You'll also need to pop out the quarter windows
Absolute arsehole of a job, especially fitting them after a new paintjob

Hi
I assume your talking about the shiny trim with the rubber edge.
Keep the old clips and put the extras in the spare holes, I've had the rubber grip the window when winding it up and rip all the clips out and and
mangle the trim piece.

Next time I replace the window seals, I'm taking it to a local panel beater. Those god damn quarter window rubbers are bastards!
In the end I gave up on the interior rubber window scraper. I've heard that using the wire from the original is the best bet, but I was working to a
dead line to get it set for Rego, so I thought Stuff it.

Unfortunatley a local panel beater may not necessarily be the right person to do it. I know many paneolbeaters that cant do anything more complicated
than changing a grille or headlight.
Speak to the panel beaters and VW mechanics around your area and see what they say. It takes time and patience.

Hi there , I had the same problem when I was fitting them
although my doors were off the car laying downwhen i wound them up they would peel off I used silicon spray, and it worked it did smear on the window
a bit but eventually wore off , and once the door was back on the car it was even better. That was over six mths ago and just starting to get a bit
hard now might have to do it again on the weekend. Mick.

OK guessing that scrubbers must be window scrapers...
one inner and one outer.....
two of the worst jobs I can remember doing.....
all the clips snapped off.... when I wound the window up..?
so, I took the piece with the broken clips off... and I used
contact adhesive on both... inner and outer..
that was 5 years ago... no problems...
haven't used anything on the rubber....
Using Contact adhesive... clean both surfaces before using alcohol wipes...
coat both sides with adhesive and let dry for 10 minutes...
then press the scraper onto the metal...
You only get one chance with this... lol
not easy with the glass in...
window channels..:
there are clips that hold the bailey channel in... normally..
unless You want to use contact again... lol
bailey channel is called felts in the USA..?
this is why a drool at the mouth every time I see 2nd hand doors with the original scrapers still in excellent condition
for sale.... lol
cheers
Lee
