Alternative Seats

Ok i tried the search function and turned up nothing, I wanted to know what peoples experiences of putting more modern seats in their bugs. Which brands (prelude, suzuki have been mentioned somewhere before), the ease of fitment and size and also the ability of access to the back seat in folding far enough forward as I have to get to a baby seat.

Your information is welcomed

i went to a local "pick and payless" with my tape measure, pen & note pad & tools just in case,
with min / max sizes before i went & walked around till i found several that i thought would fit before deciding, also took pics to look at after i was home to re-evaluate,
got a set that fitted my requirements after doing this, only took me 1 afternoon,
Nath

If you mean the Recaros - there is plenty of room

There is a winder on the side
I put the seats swapped left for right so the winder in on the inside

There are 2 flip leavers - one each shoulder - the flip forward

I'm with bizarre, recaros all the way. You won't sit in anything more comfortable.

Hi

I have fitted Honda Prelude seats to my sons bug, they are good fit, I also have a pair vintage pair of Recaros that were in my old yellow bug, these will go in my new bug. The Honda seats are just as comfortable even on long trip as the Recaros.

early Sukuki GTi are also good

sort of shows it

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d170/blue74l/Marty/100_2044.jpg

3 point seats like I have in the 1975 1303 need as little height in the base as possible
The Recaro is the flattest seat I have sean

If you have "normal" 2 runner you can get away with more

I have also gone off the "wings" look on the head rest

Anything fairly narrow should be ok, but also have a good look at the bases to see how hard they might be to fit. You want something with a flat bottom and something solid to bolt or weld them to you existing runners. If you want to be 100% legal they need to be engineer approved as well, not sure if the method I used of adapting the existing runners would pass or not but its no worse than original at least.

I'd advise agaisnt welding them to the vw runners, and make them bolt on instead

Or you may find out the hardway like I almost did that non vw seats are just that fraction to wide to fit far enough forward to slide onto the floor pan rails.

I was really impressed by how comfy those recaros in Bizzares bug are, theyre just the right firmness and really grip you well.
