Good to see you over here aswell:D
Be careful parking that close to a Hyundai though, oldschool VW's are known to eat Korean cars.

The mastercylinder on the left is just a Euro thing.
The make the engine bays that cramped that when they build the cars RHD there's no room to mount it on the drivers side

Mums 206 Pug is like that and so was my exs 318i BMW

Yes all Golfs have the engine offset towards the Euro passenger's side (our driver's side) as they are designed for LHD. The factory RHD conversion involves a cross linkage from the pedals to the booster. The Mk2 was the same, and so too my Mk3.

Early Euro/Golfs and Rabbits were quite similar (both made in Germany) but after the Westmoreland PA factory opened in 1979, US Rabbits branched off and got their own unique grilles, bumpers, lights, interior trim etc.

The Aussie-assembled LS Golfs ended in 1976 and were replaced by fully imported German GLS Golfs for 1977 until (petrol) imports ended in 1979. The diesel version (GLD) ended in 1981. This one looks like a normal Australian compliance imported '77, although 3-doors are relatively uncommon. See the way the Euro front bumper wraps around almost to the front wheel well - the earlier Aussie-made ones didn't do that.

The '2E' is a fairly common 2.0-litre VW engine fitted to the Mk3 Golfs and Ventos (GL models in Australia), as well as other VW models in various markets like the Cabrio, Passat and Corrado. And other VW Group cars by the looks of it. 1984cc, 8-valve, 85 kW/166 Nm. I think they have an 'ABA' engine number. A nice replacement for the standard 1.6 !

By the sounds of what Josh and the some of the other members on VWW said, this car was more so "built" than just the bigger 2E engine thrown in.

Quote:

It is apart of the 2.0L range, however the common engines used in 2.0L MK3's have an 'ABA' engine code. The 2E was used in early MK3 GTI's, aswell as Passats ect.
But it isn't a common engine, Im not sure what differances there are to the ABA's used in MK3's, but the 2E is a rarer and sought after engine. Apparantly the internals were made stronger than later 2.0Litre's.

The previous owner has put extractors on, into a custom exhaust system (which I'm sure Josh will post the specs up for) pushing this engine (in theory) into the 120hp range.

A beautiful car that pulls like a train.
:D
