 Brads L Bug Racer

Early days yet for this build, but things are a little quiet on the forum lately so thought you guys may want to see some jobs we have going on at the
MBMS workshop.

This one will keep the strut lovers happy.

The brief.....street / circuit car.....fast, to compete at club level (with a bit of sibling rivalary going on.....his brother runs 61/2's at
Lakeside in a Nissan and with development we need to beat him!!), big type 1 engine with Porsche cooling and dry sump, type 1 trans with Quaife ready
to go, 944 turbo ally. rear arms and brakes, adjustable front end with Porsche brakes, composite panels and 6 point or better cage for saftey and
chassis ridgedity.

Below is some insperation for the build courtesy of Remmel

So far the extremely clean primary car has been stripped and seam sealers removed for inspection and the start of rust repairs.

Front and rear aprons have been removed and replacements sourced, front will be a/c version for cooler mounting options.

The body will be coming off the pan, but the dash rust had to be done prior to removal, as I wanted it refitted while the shell is rigid.

No 2 car donated a dash with less rust in the air plenum chamber

Hows the condition of this air box ????? This is from the donor car

Rust repairs have started on the removed dash

Repaired dash ready for installation

This was certainly the easiest I have done , the only tips are cold, sharp
chisel and elbow grease. We were very lucky on this one, the car is obviously low mileage and garaged for most of its life. Pan 1/2's are nackered,
the lh sill has a small area to repair and the drip rail above the door as photodraphed is all the rust in it. Oh, and what was in the dash air box. C
pillars are factory fresh !! Zero prior accident damage too.

great stuff

Is this a rack & pinion??

The air box is certainly a "d'oh!" from VW
The drain point is not the lowest point!

VERY clean otherwise

Going to watch with great interest

Hi

I cant wait to see this take shape, love strut GLs.

Are you going to weld up the grills in the front scuttle area, you could then just run a hose from the plenum box to outside to get fresh air.

Thanks Steve, I am very open to suggestions, but my plan at present was to use the air system primarily as the screen defrost. Using the stock outlet
and ducting up to the screen, but an electric heater fan in the air box to do the work via a switch on the dash. As for cabin cooling, I thought a
pair of eye-ball vents or ducts each side of the dash and rely on the natural air flow from those grills, the fan could also be used.....and if
that's not enough, a/c or cool suit...

Very interesting Grogy, but this one will be type 1 powered, esp since gearbox and ratios are already decided, purchased and trans built.

We then did some tidying up around the aprons

And needed to prime where the clean up prep had started

This was to stop any rust as now we needed to buy some goodies.......

we found a car on good ol Aussieveedubbers that was a price too good to be true, and so we organised h for a little personal delivery service, the
kind he does soooo well

So we got some alloy rear arms and brakes from a 968

They fit easily with a few modded bit n pieces
no spring plates in this pic, they have since been fabricated

Front end has been stripped for upgrades, we are currently waiting on supply of some of the front end and new brake parts.

Should come up all right, here is the interior as purchased

We ended up speaking to Johannes, he's very good as people have said, just I'm sure he is extremely busy. A shipment of JPM products is being
finalised, somethings I wanted Johannes was already finishing the prototype stage and will be in production soon. So as usual, it pays to be patient.
