Flex Plate
Hi there
The flex plate bolts on to the engine with a (not right spelling) Glann nut not the same one as manual auto has thinner head . Then the flex plates
bolts on to the torque converter which has the ring gear welded on. T3's use three bolts on the converter.I do not know how many bolts for kombi
hope this helps

As for Kombis, the flex plate is bolted to the end of the crank with five 12mm star bolts, like the flywheel is on manual Type 4 engines. The engine
(and flex plate) is then bolted to the torque converter. Sorry I can't remember how many bolts - but I think there's 6 on a Type 4 engine.
The starter ring gear is welded onto the outer edge of the torque converter.
So to remove the engine you take out the six bolts joining the flex plate to the torque converter - through the small access hole in the crankcase -
disconnect everything and lower away. The torque converter and ring gear stays in place at the rear of the gearbox. It's good practice to get
some wire and tie it in place so it can't fall off and be damaged.

thanks guys. bugger, I was hoping the T3 had a "normal" flex plate/ring gear arrangement. that answers that though.
Thanks guys
