High beam wiring.

Hey again peeps.

Re did all the wiring on my '68 bug and now the high beam isnt working.

I have looked at the wiring diagram and I see that the brown cable on the indicator switch goes to the windscreen washer switch..

Am i reading this correctly or not? If so.. why does it go there for high beam?

Hi
without looking at the wiring diagram...

VW used switches as terminals for power... to other places..

what headlamp relay or you using?
round - rectangle - ??

headlights have fuses for Left and right headlamps
on High or Low ..

so, You have a problem with power to the fusebox for headlamps... fuses 3 & 4 are high beam and the power to these isn't getting there..

if you have replaced the headlight relay with a supercheap one or any one that isnt Genuine VW then the high beam wont work.

Doesn't need to be genuine VW. A relay is a relay. So long as the pin out is the same then it'll work though you have to be careful with diode protected relays as the coil connections need to be correctly powered.

Not the case with VWs, because the highbeam switch a momentary switch unlike most cars they have to use a special latching relay

VW headlamp relays also many BMW and SAAB SCANIA etc
use a similar special latching relay....
when You click on high beam the relay has to switch and stay latched on high beam...
