Volksie enthusiast generosity.
The good nature of VW enthusiasts astounds me at times, like today for example.
I have driven my beetle from Sydney to Nowra, and probably done about 150km of running around in Nowra since I have been here at my parents house.
Today I went to Greenwell Point for fish and chips with my old man, on the return trip, on the up change from second to third, the clutch went flat to
the floor and the car made a horrible winding grinding noise as I pulled it off the road.
I'm not a member of NRMA, (I know I should be) but I called them and all they told me was that they could join me up for $250 and get a tow truck to
tow me to the nearest mechanic, I said I'd call them back, I hate apple, but my sisters iPhone saved us today, we googled "mobile mechanic" and
the first search result was "Mobile Volksworx" located in Bomaderry, I Called James at Mobile Volksworx who told me he had moved to Wollongong and
was no longer in Bomaderry, Unfortunately he couldn't help me out, but he immediately suggested I call a friend of his called Dave Becker, James said
Dave is an enthusiast and as good as any mechanic.
I called Dave, (Day after boxing day, felt like a bastard asking) Told him about my car, the situation I was in and how I got onto him, he said he'd
bring his trailer out and take my car back to his place and take a look.
Long story short, the throwout bearing in the clutch had broken a mount and the bowden tube bracket had snapped, fortunately Dave had a spare bowden
bracket and a spare throwout bearing , Dave and his mate John from next door put on a new bowden bracket, dropped the motor out, found the broken
throwout bearing, replaced it aswell, put it all back together, sweet as a nut.
I offered to pay but Dave wouldn't have it, so I offered a case of beer, to which he accepted. An afternoon which could have found me stranded down
the coast and ended up costing my $600-800, was fixed up in 3 hours and cost me a case of beer.
Feeling pretty fortunate and lucky to have met such great, generous blokes, absolutely made my week.
EDIT: I developed some 35mm films today I shot over xmas. Yes..... films :P Thought I'd share em here..
Me in the distance..
Fish and chips at Greenwell point..
Throwout bearing gone..
Pushing on to the trailer..
No i'm not repainting it.

Thats what VW People are like. I Must say there the funnest car to break down in you get help coming left right and center, There usually cheap to
get going again, you meet realy nice new people and you learn bout your car along the way.

I have to say I've only had good experiences since rejoining the vw community. The willingness of fellow enthusiasts to provide advice and expertise.
And helpful parts purchases. Special mentions to Joel and shane aka vwmad

Having spent time in various Toyota, Mazda and Ford Circles over the years I can honestly say there is no other as freindly and helpfull as the VW
community.
Yes we do have a couple of resident trolls on here that hate everything but for the most part VW nuts are a tight knit bunch that always help each
other out
There has always been a bit of a Kombi vs Beetle division that will probably alway continue to exist for eternity but thats only a small part and is
quite amusing at times.
I spent a few hours last sunday working on a fellow forum members car cos I know the favour will always be returned if needed.

and leave it to me in his will.

In these days of 'horror stories' about people getting ripped off, etc, how heartening it is to hear of a great effort like that!
There ARE some really good folks out there, particularly those involved with 'old' cars. I'm so glad that you found a few of them, Ben. Remember - you may be able to return the favour one day, by helping
somebody out.
Cheers, Greg
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Ben, It was nice to meet you, and working on your '58 Beetle was a pleasure, love those 36hp engines.
I must say that part of being a VW enthusist is helping out other VW owners if they need a hand or are stuck with car trouble.
I have learned all I know from other VW nuts passing on their knowledge while helping me out with stuff, what goes around comes around.
Thanks for the beers

over and offer my assistance. I've only had to do it once but I'll gladly do it again.

Yep I remember that car, I pulled the engine and used it in a car I had for a while before selling it, the body and pan I sold later on, I can't
remember where it went, but was being restored.
