I'm pretty sure that the book actually extended the life of the Corvair. Chevy was going to let it go, but couldn't risk losing face by appearing to
drop the Corvair due to Nader's book. So in actual fact they continued production for a couple of extra years just to spite him.

Yes,
I just read where they were going to stop production in 1966
as the car was too expensive to build compared with front engined chevy ll s chevette etc...
but after the book... and the only the first chapter was about the 1960-63 rear suspension which was improved already when the book came out....
so, GM kept making the Corvair until the middle of 1969...
also made pick ups and station wagons...
They did sell 1.8 Million of them.....
no wonder there is still a following...

Yep, production continued until '69. The Corvair was only covered off in the first chapter. Criticism was levelled at almost the whole auto industry
of the time. Nader also criticised VW's heavily too (as well as anything rear engined) as they had a similar suspension setup. The Corvair was later
proved by an independent body to be safer than most cars on the market in the US through the whole of the 1960's.
The Mustang actually killed the Corvair with stupidly good sales brought on by very clever marketing for what was actually an antiquated car by
Corvair standards.
Damn....I'm almost talking myself out of selling it
