Anti virus

I've been using Nortons but lately have heard some bad reports, anyone here confirm or deny? my virus protection is expiring very soon and wondering about my options.

freeware avg and malware bytes of the net in combination is plenty adequate to support your system. it includes firewall protection etc and free of charge.

I was refered to 2 yrs ago by my brother whose a software engineer and swears by it, and after having it for such a time, i personally back it up as well.

AVG Free or Avast seem to be the best and they're both free too. I read that Norton's was actually caught making some of the viruses themselves to sell their product =/

Hardley worth buing a new poota, this one seems to work fine as long as I keep the boiler stoked, if I let the head of steam drop too much it slows down but if I do get a new poota then I'll definatly get one of those new ones that are lectric powered. :tu:

Evening all.

"Windows Security Essentials is the way to go for a freeware. Make sure you update it regularly.

If you want the best then have a look at NOD32. http://www.eset.com.au/  It's never missed a virus yet. Highly recommended. My wife runs Vista on her small business computer and its excellent.

I run Linux (GOS) so I'm not on the radar as far as viruses go.

PCTools - Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2011 is worth a look if you plan on purchasing rather than using freeware like AVG etc. Its been an award winner in the UK for several years. I ran AVG freeware for several years but still had problems.
Get the PCTools - Registry Mechanic software as well, and use it to clean your registries regularly. Corrupted registries are one of the prime causes of computers running slower...aaaannnndddd sssssssllloooooooowwer....aaannnn nnnn ddddd...s s ss ....

Definitely a good way to go. I run Linux Fedora on my home PC, and I dont worry about what a popup, virus, corrupt registry etc.

On the club PC laptop, it has AVG.

Nortons is full of bloatware - running crap in the back ground and slowing your PC down.

Avira and Malware bytes are good.

Im running McAfee. Came with the computer when I bought it from WOW. Does a great job. $99 per year gives you everything you need. I was running AVG on my old computer but it didn't pick up trojans on scans and eventually my computer had enough and had a meltdown. The way I see it is if you get something off the internet for free (AVG) it's not what it's cracked up to be. My experience anyways.
