Shell Swap


Hi all,

Will a shell from a 1970 bug fit on a 1973 super floor pan? Or would I have to modify it all to fit?

Short answer,no.
Strut front end of the L bug pan is the problem in fitting it to the beam front 1970's body.
Not saying it cant be done but its heavy modification and probably not worth the hassle.

There is a 1970 shell in ebay at the moment for 30c and I figured it would be easier than sorting out the mess that is my super shell.

It looks quite nice actually. But they always do in the pictures!

It won't stay at 30c long, theres $50 worth of scrap steel in the eyes of scrappys not to mention people chasing doors, guards bumpers etc,

it's probably rotten in the bottom, especially sitting on grass like that.

My experience says when a seller says little rust they really mean a shitload under a pretty paintjob.
People don't normally strip out good cars just for the pan

Swapping to a Balljoint frame head is no small task, just ask smiley

Mine is still King and Link Joel.

It's rear half superbug, with a new framehead welded on.

the rear body mount plates are at a different height, I cut mine off, sat the body in place then welded them at the correct height.

Biggest problem I had was the door gaps were out quite badly.

At the moment I am running no rear body mount blocks and double the thickness ones in the front to push the the body back into shape and fix my door gaps.
