Auto engine over revving on start - help pls
Hi all, hoping someone may point me in the right direction..Having issues of the engine over revving (high) when starting our car (auto notch). Can
anyone please provide possible solutions...thought might be something wrong with the accelerator cable but was not sticking, nor are the carbs
'stuck' , they appear to move freely. Had recent issue with one of the carb linkages being 'lost' and this was the last time car was operating -
on one carb?? Have since found a borrowed carb linkage (thanks Andy!) and voila, as above.
Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance...

Have You checked the automatic chokes??
they just work on electric coil ...
so, if You turned the key on for a few minutes they should be hot and the revving shouldn't happen...
the chokes are the round things with a wire going to them
on the side of the carbies...
they have 3 screws holding them in place...
just loosen the 3 screws and with the air cleaner off...
look down the throat of the carburetor...
the choke flap should be virtually closed to revv out an engine
so adjust both chokes the same , slightly tighten the screws and start the engine...
if still revving too much... adjust again...
I hope this helps...
this is what I used to do with a manual type 3....

You need to loosen the accelerator cable in the engine bay to check if its causing the problem.... but sounds like chokes.

Thanks Lee...I had a look and seems that both choke flaps were partially open. My question is how to you vary the degree that the choke flaps open?
Problem persevered...checked the accelerator cable also seems is as relaxed as possible against the attachment.
Maybe am missing something...

well here is a idea that i used once,1 carby was drawing fuel when turned of flooding the manefold thus revving when started.i ran the car for a bit
around the block than disconnected the fuel line,came back a few hours later put everything back and started it no revving ,problem found buy not
fixed,took carby of from the side i thought was the problem did a fast fixup and ajustments and bingo fix very strangehappy dubbing

maybe when you have put on the other linkage ,one carb is not back to idle so revving the motor up,might be an idea to have the carbs synchronized so
all works properly

Ugh, the fast idle cam and linkage setup on type3 carbs is absolutely useless once it's old and worn out
I removed all that and disabled the chokes on mine, you don't need chokes on twin carbs unless you live in the Himalayas.
the chokes were designed to be used in snowy conditions in Germany.
I've always had to back them off abit in summer here cos they come on too long.
The Choke units can be rotated to lessen their effect.

Thanks Everyone for your replies, really appreciate the collective might of aussieveedubbers! - feel like a bit of a goose...didn't realize that
these were in fact adjustable. Reduced the length of the carb linkage and worked a charm tho a touch rough..
