Advice Needed: Chassis with Holes

Hey

I have just separated the body from the Chassis and removed all carpet and rubber etc. The chassis rail (bit that runs along the centre with gear stick and handbrake) has a big hole in the top near the pedals. It looks like someone was trying to attach the pedals but couldn't so chopped a hole for access.

what does this mean? Is the chassis useable? or is the structural integrity affected? Could i just plate over it? or is the chassis cactus?

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Thanks.
I thought I'd just plate it. Just wanted to check that it wasn't going to fall apart on me!
