Dire Straites (not VW entirely & not the Band)
with 3 cars you can't go wrong - the Humber takes me to work & play each day
& the Kombi looks after my wife, we also have a"stealth" car- that is one not recognisable - you can go anywhere in
it and nobody seen you, an immaculate low milage silver 1982 Crown Royale - well,due to the Kombi now having two exhaust valve seats looking to
escape the heads through the exhaust ports & no immediate funds to fix, Jenny took the Crown to work & parked where she always parks the
Kombi, came back to find the whole side wiped out & a card under the wiper from Sydney Buses(NSW Govt) total bummer is the thing is still drivable
& roadworthy but is almost certainly to be written off as it is insured for $3000 & this looks worse than that :cry if it is written off
before I can fix Kombi :cry & to make it worse I have salvage rights on the Kombi & if it had been a write off being parked where the Crown
was today I could have easily so - there it is I have :puke:puke & feel better now, or not |

Bad news...
Want some perspective?
Last sunday night my bug broke down after being out all day since 7am, got the nrma out, found the rotor button was burnt out - got a lift back to get
my girlfriends car to go to a relatives and rip a rotor button out of my other bug only to find my girlfriends car gone without a trace....
And it was only insured TPPD...
Then found all the other rotor buttons i had were the wrong size and wouldnt fit.
It was 1am before we got home after having the bug towed and loosing the meteor...

yep silly thing but if it had been the Kombi hit in exactly the same way & place (big whack just forward of taillight & then gradually
diminishing wipeout towards the front) the damage would have been easy to fix & I have salvage rights on that, but the Crown is a real mess- doors
wheel arch etc, still drivable but looks like it was an extra in the Blues Bros - 16yr old was due to get his license in a month & is devistated
that his luxury ride is blergged |

As you are the Third party in the damage claim, the Busses company will let you retain the salvage on the Crown. I cannot see any reason why they
would take it away, and nor should they, they dont have any rights to it. They do not own it or insure it.

Sydney Buses is this weeks name for the NSW Govt buses, I put a claim into Shannons today & they said if it was write off I would get the $3000
& 1st refusal on a quite reasonable salvage offer, the doors still open & close OK & basically as a home fixit I just need to get another
2 Silver doors (not too hard) & bash the rear Guard out a LOT & it will look no worse than an Iraqi Taxi - while I got you what do I have to do two convince my kids that the flames on your vehicle look GREAT so that
I can do something similar???
Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54  |

You do not have to convince them, just do it. Fleur wanted to make her bus look different, and I suggested flames.
At first she said that isn't something you do to a kombi. I said well that is the best reason to do it.
She chose purple as it looked really funky with the orange, and there have been purple rods with orange flames and that was a good contrast.
Fleur enlisted the help of an artist friend who took 30 seconds to gracefully emblazon an outline of the flames on the bus.
This was transferred to a piece of cardboard so it could be used for both sides.
This was about four years ago, and we have enjoyed it ever since. It stops it from being just a kombi, and now "our kombi"

ok then, when I first saw it I thought "er" (not in a nasty way) & over a few weeks when I saw larger photos decided on ahhhh! Because
the respray on ours is a slightly darker orange than the original I will probably use a coupla slightly different burnt oranges seperated by similar
orange pinstriping - almost ghost flames & within my limited capabilities to carry it off, thanks for your inspiration
