Price Drop - FS 2 x Italian 40mm Dellortos SOLD
Bought these a couple of years ago thinking of future blow through turbo setup and since bought a complete 2180 engine and the carbies are just
sitting around not being used.
I will try to put a photo up in the next day or two, but you know what they look like. I bought them off a running engine, but no guarantees that
they will be straight bolt on and run deal, but you could be lucky.
This sale is for 2 x 40mm Dellortos only, no manifolds or air filters (just 2 plain carbies).
They are 'Made in Italy' branded and I am not interested in boxing them up and posting, unless you make it worth my while.
$450 no offers. (EDIT new price at bottom)

i dunno the difference between good bad or otherwise when it comes to carbs makes and brands etc
I guess if you can get a complete brand new kit with manifolds aircleaners etc for a bit more cash, people are likely to go that way

Gee, that's a bit tuff. What type of twin carbs can you get as a complete setup (everything needed) for a bit more than $450 and will they have much
performance.
You also said that you don't know the difference when it comes to carburetors or brands and I guess I asked the question re price, but I thought it
would be from someone that knew what they were talking about.

It's difficult to say about price. I rate Dells as the best vw carbs, but idf's come a very close second and they are generally cheaper. On the
other side of the coin, you have an early and late carb, difference in inlet size, they look like a D & S sided pair, vacuum port for distributor
exists on one. To get them on a vw could be quite expensive, rebuild kits for both, jets, removal of the choke and add a cover plate, add 4 extra
studs for velocity stacks, buy stacks etc. They are euro carbs, rather than the CB performance imported ones, so bits maybe a little scarce, but
available in Europe easily.

sorry all I mean is I've not tried (run in a car) a pair of dell's then swapped it out for an aftermarket set etc etc... so haven't made a
comparison that way...
I'm sure like a lot of aftermarket stuff you get they might have their issues... but don't know that for sure... the empi, webber, hpmx stuff might
be awesome....
so for $500 you get a pair of 44's with the works - yes you'll need to cop freight but you'll be coping it all over the place as you start buying
manifolds, linkage, hardware etc etc

no I don't think yours are particularily dear, but a lot of people might prefer to take the easier road than have to piece it all together...
just trying to answer your question...
so if they owe ya heaps - keep em and use em on something...
if you advertise them and no-one bites, then yes you need to decide to reduce the price, bump the ad, try ebay or keep em...
keep doing any or all of the above til they sell...

I'm pretty sure 500 carb kits are empi HPMX and are hit and miss type carbs. Alternatively i thinkyou can buy new carb kits including all hardware
for $1000, in Weber new stock, 40 or 44mm and get it jetted to keep costs down from them before shipment. There are numerous shops.
Not a bad deal is my 2c, but there are expenses if you went this way. I suppose you are looking for someone who already has all the linkage and
manifolds etc.

Not sure what you mean by this as I had another look and on the underside there is what I assume is the month & year made and they are both
exactly the same and the serial number tag on them is only 1 digit difference. Hence they were made/produced at the same time, one directly after the
other. So they are not and early and late carb, sorry.
I hope this also help anyone else that me be looking at these. Make me an offer, I can only say no.
On a side note, Dellortos are the preferred carb for using in a blow through turbo setup which is why I bought them.

If the tags match up, then 1 of the tops has been changed. The inlet banjo bolts are meant to be the same size, from the pics I'm seeing an 11mm or
early inlet and a 17mm or late inlet.

To answer your question, I would be in the market for these if they were a complete kit. Buying manifolds, linkages and air cleaners separately adds
up to huge dollars, which can approach the price of a complete kit. For example, a pair of new manifolds for these is roughly $270 plus shipping
depending on where you get them. For this reason only, I've decided that I'm not prepared to buy any carbs unless they come as a kit with everything
I need. I understand that there's not much you can do about this, but that's just my reason for not buying them.

I can understand people giving their 20 cents worth of opinion, but there seems to be lot of price based winging going on, send Kev a pm with an offer
if you think the price is not within your budget considering all the other related costs to make the Dells "complete".
As for comparing them to a "Kit" trust me, I've been there and these old Italian castings are far superior.
Air cleaners $46 cip1
Stacks $30 cip1
Linkage $75 samba
Manifolds $80 samba
Kit $35
Total roughly $266 plus purchase price of carbs still way below "kit" form with better casting and you will have to clean, set up and re-assemble
the carbs out of the box .

I agree with Hellbugged, the price is good, I just sold a pair of 36idf webbers, no linkages, manifolds or air cleaners and they sold for $450.
