HP loss through generator/fanbelt?
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has an idea on roughly how much power is gained by running an electric fan and different cooling set up on a small drag race
engine? Is it substantial enough to warrant looking into alternative cooling rather than the traditional generator fan and fan belt? Can you run a set
up like this with a magnesium case on pump fuel?
thanks
Mick.

Mick ' i would personally not bother with this mod on a low budget car as it will lead to more drama's if not set up right especially for the bugger
all power gain

If it's for drag and you're on a budget then just slip the fan belt off before each run and put it back on again in the pits to cool down!

Michael , I have done dyno tests and with a std 7 1/2" size pulley you would gain 12 HP @ the wheels , or 9 HP with a 6 1/2" power pulley . This is
when you run an alternator and wide late fan , ROD .
More boost + More fuel = More power

think its worth 6rwhp. Do the fanbelt thing.I got my setup cheap,as i didnt have a cooling system when bought the car so it was worth it.It never
gets driven except at the track. Not sure what it would be like on the street. Ruben tried it without much success. But as they say every bit helps.
What are you building?????

Drag car project.... low budget. Not much different to how your rat started out really, although now yours seems to be getting the real race car
treatment! It needs to be finished in roughly 20 weeks so i'm gathering alot of info and parts then i'll pull my finger out and get some real work
done! It will never see the street.

Mick . just do what ever you want dude , as it's your ride .
Just like my rat everyone has there own idea's and i built mine to suit my tastes / uses , but just build it , don't stall on it for years as i have
done with the Towdster.
As your fist drag car build , feel free to give me a ring and i'll give you some advice that will ensure it at least makes Warwick

Yes, I think rpm definately has something to do with it. I know of a dyno sesion earlier this week that saw 5 rwhp increase albeit at a lowish rpm (my
guess around 4600).

Nah, you'll be right mate. Your wife will be that tired she will just go to bed and you go to the shed... but be warned you will have your balls
fried if you start your car...
BTW we only found a 3hp difference when we dropped my belt on Leons dyno. I am running a 5.5 inch alloy pulley and 12v generator.
