I'm fairly sure it's the blue and white 21'er at Classic Throttle Shop in North Sydney.

I was down there having a poke about earlier in the week- if you're around the area it's a great place to scope out if you've got time. There are some beautiful machines down there.

The Bus was nice, but paled in comparison To the 650k Aston Martin DB5 right next to it :)

Yes it's a '64 model so it has the wider rear door and no rear corner windows. Nice car, but $90k ?

The '21/23 window' thing has always amused me. Have a look at the picture below - this is a '66 model so it also has the wide rear door and no corner windows.

How many windows does it have? Let's count them:

2 - windscreen
2 - door vent windows
2 - front door windows
8 - side windows
1 - rear door
8 - skylight windows

TOTAL - 23.

Which means the ealier model with 2 extra corner windows actually has 25.

So which two aren't counted in popular culture ? Don't they count the windscreen panes as 'windows' ?

I'm guessing they don't count the front window quarter panels as they're counted as part of the same 'window frame?'

Wikipedia fail you this time?

Windscreens are not counted.
Such as the '32 3 window coupe

Or the 31' 5 window coupe

I love Wikipedia. It's great for most things Matt but not everything.

I agree with you about the 3 window coupe. But here's something else to muddy the waters. This is a US VW ad from 1966. To get the '21 window' figure, it seems VW not only counts the windscreen, but counts the two windscreen panels together as one window. In addition, VW counts the door and vent windows as one window. And finally the sunroof is also counted as a window.

I must admit I wouldn't have thought of that.

Just to throw another spanner in the works, the one from within the newspaper article was earlier reported on this forum as being the one that was built in Thailand. If this is the same one then it was only built within the last 2-3 years and sold within the last 2-3 years. Yet from memory, the newspaper article stated that the family had owned it for something like 11 years. Work that out ??????

Kev

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

Lee, if i had a few million, price definitely wouldnt be a concern, but i still wouldnt pay 90k for it.... not to be rude or mean, but there are many better cars out there for that sort of money.... it is a great car and i would love to own it if i had the money, but not for 90k....... cheers adam

The cars they have there are usually pretty pricey; but they are great quality.

I do think though that 90k is too much for a kombi; but when it's in a show room of porsches and ferraris its the cheaper one!

Cheers
