Gravel Guards
Thinking of fitting some Gravel guards to my 72 Superbug,
I'm just curious, What is the best way to fit them without damaging the paintwork?
Also does anyone know where the best place to get them from would be?
Thanks

be very careful
The only ones that fit a super / late bug that you can buy new are the chrome ones
These were on mine
The fronts were ok but the rears rusted
I couldnt take them off as they had rubbed against the paintwork and left large marks
I had to polish them weekly to stop them looking like crap
Luckily I managed to pick up an original set of stainles steel ones off here ad they are fine
The front chrome ones are still on there and not rusting after 6 years on living out side - go figure

I had aluminium ones on my bug as well, and now I have SS ones. They both fitted fine.

OK - seeing as I didnt know you could get aluminium new you wont have problems with rust
What stained my painwork was the crappy chrome rusted on the inside
they just sort of clip on and go through the guard bolt holes
The rears you need to take a bolt or 2 out of the guard and the rear one of the running board

They're easy to fit, just position them in place then the edges are bent around under the guard lip.
If you go aluminium you have gotta get good quality ones
Al at stokersiding gave me these ones and they were so thin you could almost see through them.
You can even see from that distance the dents in them,
after only a few months on my car they already looked like they had faced the firing squad.

That is the problem with the aluminium ones - they dent very easily, but do protect your guards.

If the Aluminuim ones are soft & dent easily, and the Chrome ones go dull and rust would Stainless Steel be the way to go????
