What to see in California / Vegas.

Hi everyone,
As the title says, what vw, hot rod, classic car and bike attractions would be a must see in California and Las Vegas? My dad and i will be over there between 12th April - 4th May and want to try and see as much as we can. Shops, shows or museums. We have a list of a few places to check out, but want to see what others recommend.
Thanks, look forward to hearing your suggestions!
Alex.

depends on how much time you have,IF you got a spare day or so ,drive from vegas to kingman on hwy93 then drive the old route66 from kingman to barstow you wont be sorry you did, once in barstow drive thru ontario mills for clothes and stuff then knock yourself out in so-cal parts shopping

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Every PetrolHead has just gotta do Mulholland Drive in LA - in a Stingray Corvette, after dinner one night, would be fun.

I found the Le Brea Tar pits very interesting.

And the Getty Centre too. A long bus ride out to it.

These places are depending on what you would be interested in as a side to motor stuff.

Is was in LA and Vegas last year, and will be back there in 3 weeks.

April 17th is Pomona. Do not miss it. It is the biggest swap meet and car sale you will ever see. It's held at the Pomona dragway, and with your timing you will be there for it. Get down to Santa Ana and visit Mooneyes, and any other Hot Rod shops you can find in Orange County. Huntington Beach is the place to get on a warm spring evening for rides cruising by. If history is your thing, head up to Griffith Park and grab a burrito from one of the Hollywood Blvd vendors, then head up and watch the sunset across LA. Griffith Park is where some scenes in Rebel With A Cause was filmed, so it's pretty cool. La Brea I haven't got to, but might do this time around. Westwood Cemetery is pretty neat with Marilyn, Betty Page and Dean Martin along with plenty of other celebs buried there.

If you're in Vegas over Easter (I will be), get over to The Orleans on Easter Saturday. There you will see another great car show at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender (2nd year running for me). Whilst tickets for the whole weekend are sold out, you can get a ticket into the car show. Don't bust a gut getting there too early as it's the afternoon when the action is. Plenty of neat cars (and I mean plenty - had to be at least 1000 last year), pinups, and this year Jerry Lee Lewis playing (last year was Chuck Berry). Then after the music the fun starts. All the Chulo's will start up their cars, lots of engine noise, air sirens (I kid you not), and then with a belly full of booze the car show becomes burnout city. Keep you camera ready and head for the plumes of smoke. Guys will be hold onto the front of cars and lifting up the rear right in the middle of the car show - just mad. But well worth the buzz.

As you can tell, I love it over there. I hope you have a great time. Anything else, let me know.

Don't forget to go to the Imperial Palace Casino in Vegas on the 5th floor and look at the collection there. Blow your mind, and most are for sale. volma1

They are still there, just have faith you'll find one.

The Kelly Park show in San Jose is going on in that time. Usually around a couple hundred old (really old)Vw's and a swap to peruse. The split beetle and oval section is larger than the entire car count at most Aussie VW shows. P.S. The auto museum at the Inferior Palace is nice, but stay at a different hotel. There is also a drag racing museum at Pomona(not open on Sundays) I have seen photos (wow)
