It was pulled to peices and the running gear went to NZ where it went back into a F5000 open wheeler and the shell was burnt on a farm that Brian owned at the time as he couldn't stand the thought of someone trying to bodge it back together without the F5000 running gear .
I have picture somewhere of Brian and the burnt out shell together as extracted from a magazine a few years back

There was a 13 page write up about Bryan Thompson and his car in Australian Muscle Car magazine issue 40 NOV/DEC 2008

According to the article in 1999 he set fire to ii on his sheparton property.

I remember seeing it run at Calder Park, in competition with Bob Janes Monaro amonst others; spectacular car, a little short in wheelbase to be very stable; well suited to the tight Calder track.

To the uninitiated like me, what was the history with this car? What made it so special?
Cheers

VW Fastback body on a rear-engine tube frame chassis from a Formula 5000 (5 litre V8) open wheeler; these sports sedans were spectacular and had a very competitive class with a lot of variety of approaches; nothing like the milk-toast blandness of V8 supercars today where only the paint and badges distinguish any two cars.

I saw it, body intact, a bit sad-looking, minus engine & trans, in the early 90's. It was however mostly yellow in color as I recall, not mainly black as shown above. Maybe it was painted yellow later on ? It was behind his private car museum, and was definitely THE car (we asked). We were told it was awaiting possible restoration, at that time.
