Vacuum Advance dizzy
I am looking at buying a new electric dizzy, vacuum advance for my rebuilt 1300cc SP motor.
Wolfsburg Automotive have them for $95 with free delivery, with plazmex rapidfire ignition, my question is are these cheap and nasty or a good deal?

hmm..i have one..or something similar i bought for ~150.
dual del 40's, 1916 w110
i put it on and timing went erratic , i.e. timing wavered over 3-4 degrees??? car felt smooth to drive but kinda dead, so i sent it back to supplier
who eventually
returned it saying he checked it and it was fine! i tried again..same thing
i put the 009 back on and the car took off and felt alive again.
so ..i don't know..maybe this one would run allright with standard carb (vacuum) and engine?
ask the supplier if it will work properly with your setup before handing over the cash?

I don't know...
I thought I'd do the right thing and buy a new Bosch SVDA dizzy and pertronix electronic ignition kit from aircooled.net in the USA early last
year...
Cost Me $300AU...
But it was worth it....
My near new 009 which I thought went fine...
is crap compared to the New SVDA...
aircooled.net adjust the distributor to whatever carbies or carby You are using... Each one is tested on their machine.
its sooo smooth its unreal... from just touching the accelerator
until You have your foot thru the floor... EXCELLENT...
My engine is a H0 [1500] single port [now 1600cc] and its goes great... VERY PLEASED...
These distributors do NOT work with early carburetors as they don't have enough Vacuum...
What carburetor are You using??
from 7.5 degrees to around 40 degrees advance....
I could NEVER go back to a 009..dizzy...
maybe that is why VW never used them....
plus fuel economy is much better..

Just remember that all these very cheap distributors are made in china..
where copies are not always accurate copies...
and quantity is usually above quality .....
it seems that if it looks the same.... it is the same.... YIKES

I had the same experience, couldn't get the timing right, it moved all over the place, the vac can also failed in a week, I sent it back for a refund
and rebuilt an original German one, no probs with it.

Hi
when I bought Mine, I hadn't seen the cheap ones here in Australia...
I did however see the HotSpark.com distributors...
which are much cheaper than the Bosch SVDA from aircooled.net
but aren't made by Bosch....
I am now glad I bought the best.....

PS: it seems so stupid to make items that look great but are the incorrect size etc... or with distributors ... maybe the springs are rubbish or the

Don't know why you don't throw dizzy in the bin
EDIS from a ford mondeo $100 including post(ebay from atomic jaw breaker USA if you can't find anything cheap at the local wreckers)
Megajolt from http://www.autosportlabs.com/ Less than $200 including postage.
$50 for sundries
$350 max for a fully programmable dizzyless ignition with all the bells and whistles you'll ever need.
Most of us are familiar with the Megasquirt. This is the ignition only version.

That's all well and good Imac, but your $350 for a Megajolt system doesn't include the tuning! Not many VW owners would be comfortable mapping their
own timing curves. With the correct distributor you just bolt it on and go. No fabrication, finding room for extra parts and tuning. Having said all
this I am halfway tempted to go Megasquirt and convert my bug to full EFI, given how expensive Webers are.

Yes it does, the default map is good enough for most N/A VW's and I'll email anyone a few more tweeked maps if desired In my opinion it's easier to
tune than undoing a 10mm nut and turning the dizzy, it's just a different mind set to get your head around the amount of flexibility.
PS I'm running it on a stock 1600TP with a 32/36 Weber and a 1776 turbo with a Weber DMTT with maps to suit both if anyone wants them.
PSS Waveman please go megasquirt EFI because I'll want to pick your brains (if you'll allow me) when you've got it sorted.

Each to their own mate, I am a bit old school so give me a Magneto or stock vacuum dizzy any time, some spare points in the glove box and voila, when
the EDIS shits itself call a towie.
