google is your frined.. FYI for others??

If no seatbelts are fitted to the vehicle it is an offence to carry children under seven years of age in the vehicle.
It is legal to carry a child aged 7-16yrs in a vehicle that does not require seatbelts to be fitted.

My mum yells at parents who don't belt their kids up- embarrassing for sure but she makes a good Point!

I am putting belts in the back of my EH Holden now. My kids have not had a ride in it yet, so two outer lap sash retractable, centre lap, and child restraint bolt all fitted to the back seat.

don't put the kids in the car, even simpler...

on a serious note, irrespective of what the laws are, be a responsible parent and make sure your kids are safe no matter what.

I shake my head when I see parents that have got kids (and multiple ones at that) that let their kids ride in the car which ever way suits the kid, or have 4 in the back seat etc

Cheers

interesting discussion, the thought peaked when i saw a 30's odd truck, the type where the entire body is timber, no doors, belts, bench timber seat, etc,, rock up to a car show with the old man and the boy.. got me thinking about the 58 beetle and the LEGAL requirements, not the moral one.

When i bought my 61 beetle last year, the previous owner had installed lap belts in the back, as this was his son's car and didn't want his son's friends riding with no belts.

I rang the RTA and asked about my car and belts for kids, because i have 2 young daughters. The guy from the technical area told me that because it was a pre-65 car, classed as vintage and was manufactured without rear belts, i could drive around with no rear seat belts if i liked. I decided to install shoulder harnesses in the rear as well as i just wouldn't feel right with my kids riding with just a lap belt.

When I had by 59, I didn't let my kids ride in it until it had belts. Well....my wife wouldn't let them ride in it. Safety over originality any day when it comes to that one.
