What sort of tow car
Ok, Im in the market for a new tow car. Im after something small but with enough ball to do long trips.
Was wondering what everyone on here uses????/ And if you think you made the rightg choice. All up im towing around 1000kg!!!!

I wouldnt buy any of those other Diesel cars/ 4wd as the services cost heaps.

HSV Avalanche XUV, which is basically a souped up Crewman Cross8. It's so good as a tow car I'm now into my 6th year of having it, when I normally
only keep cars 3 years (part of my salary package).
5.7 V8 All Wheel Drive ute that will accel, brake and corner better than most "normal" cars on the road... basically just other HSV's, Sports Cars
or a hard driven WRX that are quicker. All while driving like a normal car with cruise, climate, comfy leather seats etc. while still being able to
tow 2.1t
Can load it up with 4 adults, camping gear for a weekend (eg Warwick), trailer and race car on the back and still get a speeding ticket climbing the
mountains if I like.
Two downsides are it's missing a VW badge plus mine's bright red... it sort of screams LOOK AT ME, and is very definite cop-bait if driven
spiritedly.
Only real potential replacement I can see is an Amarok, and still not driven one of them yet...

Toyota 2wd dual cab would be my first choice with the turb diesel 3lt,
except that the cost of diesel at the moment will put you back on the poverty line.
(as if a drag car and new baby have not put you there already!)
The territory will have heaps of towing capacity and family friendly.
Pretty big for a sheila to drive though...and it is a Ford.  
But seriously, a good car, perfect for the application and budget.

ford territory are Ok , they haD a few issues with brakes and ball jointS falling out .
they come in 2wd or 4wd.
DONT buy a black car and give leather trim a miss.
just google nrma car reports to get more info.

my grandparents manage to tow a van the size of a block of flats all around the country most of the year in their territory, seems ok, huge upgrade
over their previous falcons/commodores, i drove it & wasnt all that impressed, though my tiguan cant tow as much, for a decent used one id imagine
it would suit nicely, though no manual if thats an issue...

Santa Fe diesel. Grandma can drive the things, smooth, good vision, 7L/100km without weight and mountains, enough low-down grunt to pull a sailor off
your sister.
Does it heaps better than the wife's VX Commode, and although will tow no better than the old crappy XF ute, is MUCH nicer to drive.
Wouldn't surprise me if it even had aircon.......

After having all kinds of V8 powered tow cars, my T5, 2.5L turbo diesel with 6 speed auto is the best tow car yet.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Both my T4 and now T5 TDI have performed really well and good on fuel, T5 used 120 ltr to Portland

Having travelled 200,000k's with at least 70% of its time towing other vw's you simply cant go past a t5 2.5 tdi auto....ask Rod Penrose what passed
him uphill towing a bug whilst he was flat chat in his hummer??????? T5 only way to go.........for the others who have recommened other types ..DO
yourself a favour and get behind a wheel of a t5 and tow...YOU will be very suprised

I tow with a T3 like Matt, they do it tough on long hills but once at 100 - 110 on the flat they cruise very nicely, just don't ask me about fuel
economy
But it didn't s#@t it self like fabe's old V6 Pajero did going to warwick a couple of years ago!!

id love a dual cab toyota 4X4 for a tow car and offroad but don't have the money for a good one
im still using my old vn v8 ... had it for 11 year now and it's had a hard life (got when on my p's)
and i don't think the diff will make it to warwick this year so i have to do something about that
but if i didn't spend all my money on the buggy i might have a good car ..hell even my trailer is worth more then my tow car LMAO

+ 2334324 for Turbo diesel.
The BA XR6 was a shitty tow car, pulled my little boat ok but a loaded car trailer pfffft, the trailer drove it instead.
3L turbo diesel Nissan, couldn't fault it, even when I towed 2 cars at once.
Had what was left of my Lbug convertable on the tray and my red 74 beetle on the trailer.
Climbed hills with ease.
You can pick up the loaded ST-R duel cabs for around the $20k mark from around 2002-2004, even cheaper privately
