ltalian Webers or Spanish Webers

Hello there,

Doing a little research, before buying a set of Webers - Dual 44 IDFs.

What's better - a set of used Italian Webers or a set of new Spnaish Webers?

I realise, both will need work - jetting, venturis etc, to suit my application.

From experiemce, are re-built Italian IDFs the better carbs or brand new set of Spanish IDFs?

Thanks,
Bryce

I like Italian - but have never used Spanish

I have "heard" the latest Chinese HMPX are really good. That said, I wouldnt use them. Just because its my money. Not THAT brave

Nothing beats personal experience.

Why do you want 44's??
What motor??
If it is 2L or less I would go for some DRLA40's off Alfa 1750
Jetted to the size you want and rebuilt
The jetting alone saves you a heap

I have been doing a little research also on Weber carbs and this is what i've found.

When Weber ceased production in Italy they moved all there tooling to the factory in Spain where they are now made>

This is an interesting read for people who want to tell the difference between Spanish and American Weber's.

http://www.webcon.co.uk/Downloads/Genuine%20Weber.PDF

I have also read that the company whom owns Weber ,Magneti Marelli , also owns Solex and has since sold the naming rights
to third parties, who can produce copies and call them original Weber carbs. Here is the link for that.

Keeping in mind these sources are on the internet and may not be 100% correct.

If it was me, I would buy the new Spanish carbs.................I have both the Spanish and Italian carbs on my cars and they are both the same quality. DO NOT USE THE CHINESE COPY CRAP !

Guys,

Thanks for replying.

It gets a little confusing, there are too many options when it comes to Weber IDF 44s!
New Spanish IDFs from the "big" online VW hot rod shops, to the large number of used Italian 44s, on the Samba website.

There are a lot of threads online, by guys, who will only use only old Italian Webers, EG: "true tune ability", build quality etc.
I am assume, the old Italians have been rebuilt, and new Spanish Webers should be ok out of the box (excluding jets etc)!

Bizarre, I want IDFs.

Oh yeah, I have NO intention of getting the Empi/HMPX Webers.

Thanks.

Hi Zayus,
My Brother has just bought a set of 40 IDF spanish made and they are beautifully made and run perfect. We pulled them apart and there is nothing we could fault. The engine is a full rebuild 1776 cc and i will post full details soon. ( he thinks he will be quicker than me over the 1/4, no chance!!!!)

I have bought a set of new Spanish Webers thru CSP.
I like their linkage, and I was sold on their manifolds.

Thanks for the input.
