1956 VW Oval Beetle........Hervey Bay QLD
Hello all.....
We have joined this forum as we have a 1956 VW Beetle that has been passed through the family for the last 30 years and it's now at the end of the
line.
It has 82,000 miles, new upholstry, CD Player, 12 volt.
I can't put an exact price on it but we're just putting it out there to see what offers it attracts.
Bug is located in Hervey Bay, 3 hours north of Brisbane.
If you require any specific photos, please let me know.

The actual colour is maroon but sometimes it looks brown depending on the light it's in.
Thanks for your interest

The chassis is original and so is the engine but it's been rebuilt about 4 years ago.
If anyone has an idea of what this bug is worth, please let me know.

ive looked at this car on carsales, and the strange thing is is that it doesnt have semaphores!
so is it an import and at some stage had soem modification work re updated lights or steering change? or is it not a true oval?

Deckild isn't convertible as the grills would be smaller and vertical, rather than large and horizontal, thus grills are retro-fit into a W-lid.

I'm sorry for not providing all the details...
Vehichle is currently registered in QLD until July
CD player as described
Apparantly it's an 1800cc engine
Not sure about what exhaust it is
Not sure about the first gear
There's no rust
No'one can remember when the indicators were were changed
Sorry for being vague......I just don't know a whole lot about them.

When we aquired the car it didn't have semaphores but have been told that it probably did at some stage.
I really don't know the history of it before 1980...

I have to say that Luftmeister is close to the mark, I would say 3k ish. Whether or not the car is a solid runner, the appeal of an oval is not only
the rear window, but all the right bits, like rear lights and semaphores. To put that right would cost a fair amount, getting rid of the vents,
opening the semaphore holes, repairing the wings, getting lights, etc. The B posts don't look wide enough for semaphores to me or is it an optical
illusion?

Its not unusual to see bogged over semaphores, people used to try and update bugs to make them look newer like this one fitting later guards, bumpers,
lights etc some ovals and splits even had bigger back windows grafted in
In the 80s and early 90s when carrera kits were big it was normal to see 60s bugs fitted with 70s gaurds, bumpers, lights, bonnets and decklids/whale
tails

Perhaps it's originally a private import from a country with RHD's and US specs. The Yanks had bullet indicators on their Ovals. Perhaps Canada
before they switched over? or some of the northern European countries which switched over during that period from RHD to LHD like Sweden?
Frankly I can't remember all the dates and all my VW books are packed up in boxes, but it could easily be an oval with no semo's. Maybe it has had a
LHD-RHD conversion? Lots of interesting embassy VW's have come out of Canberra over the years, mostly LHD.....

just a newb guys and know it's not fool proof but so the owners have some confidence in what theyre selling does the forum have the info to work out
year/place of manufacture etc from the ID plates and the number stamped on the tunnel under the rear seat? excuse it if its a stupid question i have a
56 oval bodied beetle that was very heavily modified in the early 80's by a previous owner and also own a very original old classic ford coupe so I
get the whole unmolested value thing but from a vw newb viewpoint this guys car with those original miles looks like its worth more than $3k to me?
even modified ,just my opinion but i appreciate there would be good deals offered thru the forum and the knowledge you guys have

Personally, it's not that it's been modified, but how it's been done. Finding a decent decklid and snowflake lights would be hard and expensive,
also it has good paint, but welding up the indicator holes and that air scoop would ruin a fair bit. Also no semphores on show.
The vin plate you posted, is it yours? VW1/11 designates it as Beetle 2 door, standard model, LHD.

Ebay will give you a true indication of what people are willing to pay, can be scary letting an auction run though. Almost as scary as the self
proclaimed experts trying work out what you have ,entertaining though i must say
Good Luck with the sale

WRONG
All ovals had 1/11 embossed (not stamped) on them from the factory. The car also has the MKA number stamped into it....Aussie only

I stand corrected, I saw the MKA stamp. If that's the case, where does the model designation appear e.g 112 115 etc?. Looking at the early Bentley
manual it states all those different models.

Stick it on Ebay and set the reserve sky hi or pull it before the auction ends that will give you a better indication then some of the Flippers on

Just gotta find the right buyer I guess. It may not have all the right bits as sought by the purists, but it still looks good to me. The engine
probably has some poke and the paint looks OK. I'd buy it at 4K if I had the money and space.
