rear shocker absorbers
Hi
Looking at my rear shockers and wondered what the options are for replacing them. I'm not a racer, with city and highway running. My 1970 1500
hasn't been lowered and has stock wheels and tyres fitted. Are they hard to replace?

No,
Very Easy Steve,,,
If You buy Cofap oil shocks from any of the VWMA magazine advertisers they will be cheaper than repCo etc..
and You know they will fit...
You can also fit Gas shocks to the rear....
these are slightly harder to put on as they are Gas pressurised
but are still easy to fit...
Just the two bolts top and bottom...

Thanks for the info, will dig out the copy of VWmag and check out the suppliers.
If I replace the either of the front or rear shockers, do I need to get Phoebe wheel aligned?

Like Lee says - they're easy to replace, and Cofap oils are basically a direct replacement for what you currently have.
For my money tho I'd go with a gas shock.... even on a stock height car. Monroe have a gas shock to suit, and probably Pedders too, or there's KYB
GR-2 for something a little sport'ier in feel.
You don't have to get a wheel alignment since you won't be undoing any of the adjustments, but if the shocks alter the front ride height at all (as
gas shocks often will) then it's probably a good idea to get one done.

Thanks for the info. Would like to support the advertisers in the VW mag.
Rang StokersVWparts today re a replacement pair, forgot to ask who was the shockers manufacturer. StokersVWparts had both oil and gas shockers.
I'll give mickmotors a ring as well.
Think i will end up with gas shocks from the feedback from yourself and Lee. Seems the cost for oil to gas is not very much.

You should replace the front shocks aswell.
Buy Bilstiens from the US, very cheap at the moment for a set of 4
