are you talking about the type 1 semi auto or the type 3 auto?
ether isnt going to be a bolt up affair and requiring a fair bit of custom work.

semi auto out of a beetle has 3 forward speeds, but as Barls said a lot of messing around as you have solenoid valves and air tanks to put somewhere as well as the fluid reservoir

There is no possible reason why you would bother. The Type 3 auto and the manual transmission are both better than the semi-auto. If you think you want a semi-auto that badly then make sure that you test drive one first to see if you still feel the same way!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a correctly set up Semi-auto car.

Yes,
a semi auto beetle gearbox/transaxle would fit in easily...

they have the "normal" looking gearshifter , but do have a different gear lever in it has electrical contact points down near the bottom of the lever... and the lock out plate is diffierent..

there is an ATF tank and a vacuum tank...
people have placed these under the rear seats.. lol

[You could make up tanks to fit anywhere really]

it has a special control valve in the beetle engine bay...
again.. could be placed elsewhere..
connected to 3 x 12mm vacuum hoses.. and a small vacuum hose..

The oil pump on the engine is a dual pump... has an ATF pump on top of an engine oil pump.. Dual pump..
and pipes and hoses back to the torque converter in the bellhousing of the gearbox...

If setup correctly [mainly adjustments] they go great...

the clutch is activated by a vacuum servo on the top/side of the gearbox...

Once new ATF hoses and vacuum hoses are fitted , its virtually trouble free...

cheers

LEE
