Roadworthy checks
Roadworthy checks
Hi All, today, one of my clients dropped off his Kombi & as usual, we had a bit of a chat, he just came from "Hanks" (for those that dont know
who Hank is,) well; lets just say that he is Geelongs VW Guru who supplys many VW parts pretty cheap, he is a true Gentleman. Anywayz, Don tells me of
a strange encounter that Hank had the other day, Hank says that whilst he was in his workshop, he noticed a bloke up his driveway checking out Hanks
Kombi Ute, he also noticed that the bloke had a clipboard and he was writing down notes. Hank walks up to the guy and asks what is he doing? Guy
replys that he is from the RTA and is inspecting Hanks ute, Hank asks who gave him permission to enter his property? The bloke then replys that Hank
has been seen driving this ute frequently and that it seems to be unroadworthy pointing to a crack in the windscreen and some other bits, Hank sees
red and tells the bloke to get off his property. Not sure of what else happened but this scenario doesn't seem right? has anyone else had a similar
visit? or was this bloke really from Vic Roads? Seems very strange or whats even more of a concern, is this something new to keep us on our toes??
I'll be seeing Hank over the weekend and ask what became of this "invasion of privacy" cheers Frank

In my area in NSW the inspectors used to come in and identify themselves when they visited for inspections, but in one instance a woman who I had
carried out an auvis inspection for rang to tell me that she had had a visit at 7.00pm (in winter and obviously dark) from 2 characters supposedly
from the RTA asking to inspect the horse float that I had inspected the day before, she refused to open the door or give them access and I assumed she
also gave them a mouthfull for their trouble. Apart from this I had good relations with most of the RTA inspectors.

I have posted this on the DSK & KC forums, have had feedback saying that inspectors are going to newly registered "garaged owners addresses and
checking roadworthies to catch out dodgy roadworthy mechanics. Not the home/ car owner. But in Hanks case, I am pretty sure his ute has been
registered for a few years now
