A Taste of Welding
G'Day all,
There has been talk on here about welding courses and stuff.
SGSCC has a course called a taste of welding which runs on saturday afternoons from 2 - 5pm. Course is being held on the 18th and 25 of May and costs
$89.
It's a good way to get and understanding of ARC, Mig and oxy welding as well as oxy cutting.
They also have weeknight courses on panel beating engine building and more indepth welding.

The teacher has asked me to see if there is any interest in a weekday welding course?????

Im interested in doing a course like this, depending on the cost and the days (shiftworker)

thats shits me, nothing ever good or is open of the weekends. how are people suppose to get anything done?
can't go to the post office after work, closed!, weekend closed!
drop your crap off at the local engineer on your sick day, go after work to pick it up closed!, weekend closed!
local mechanic for car service supplies, after work closed!, weekend closed!.
Arhhh lazy crap for crap country.

yeah I do apologize for looking like a jerk. I just have a sick and sadistic/serious sense of humor.
guess people take it the wrong way on the net?
Anyway I am really concerned how our system has made majority of the population.
Its not the peoples fault its our system. Our government has screwed us over BIG time.
we have Americanized way too much.(consumerism, throw away, quick fix, cheap bastards) I wish this country would get some of its influence from
Europe.
Once you have been there and come back, its like being punched in the face. You realize how bad the situation really is.
but what can you say? you love it and you hate

having a european back ground myself you want lazy go have a siesta
.
sick days dont exsist in europe my father was laid off work for taking a day off
got his job back following week after explaining in great detail why he took the day off
having family that didnt make it over here when i came out with my parents we certainly
have never looked back but we still like our vws great thing is their in much less rusted condition
not needing as much welding
how common is tig welding for the home restorer?
australians are smart enough not to follow americas every move because we are free to choose
no dictatorships here

depends which Europe country you are talking about.
both Poland and Swiss have sick days and as far as i know Austria too.
how common is tig for the home restorer? I had the impression it was more common than mig or stick.
guess its different here?

FYI Vlad, Tig is the most difficult and expensive form of welding. Just because you see it on Overhaulin and Monster Garage does not mean it is
"fundamental".
Why don't you drop $80 and a couple of saturday afternoons and come learn something???
BTW just came back from holland where nothing is open on Sundays (not even the supermarket) and finding an ATM is a Mission. I thought this to myslef
on sunday night whilst i was in a chemest at 8pm.

on subject of welding mig welding is very easy to pick up
my first welding encounter was watching a neighbour
you can pick up mig welders for $200$300 a bit of practice
and away you go

What MIG welders can anyone recommend for the first time welder? Im guessing gas is better. Should all the chinese ebay welders be avoided?
How much power do I need? ill prob be doing repairs to body panels, as well as possibly welding exhausts.

mig stands for metal inert gas run from a bottle or in the flux on or in the wire
a 120 amp welder gasless?. is fine just dont weld for long periods without allowing the machine to cool down for a while
use in a well lit well ventilated area you dont want to breath in the fumes find a good mask self darkening if possible that is an expense i didnt
account for my apologies
can cost almost as much as a machine itself for a really good one a good 2nd hand machine that has been checked over is probably a better bet than a
chinese machine unless anyone on here knows otherwise'.i got my first machine from a panel shop they had bought new machines for tax purposes picked
it up for $200 and a case of beer
lol spent $100 getting it to work right i guess i got lucky

Im not a big fan of gasless migs and they seem to throw too much slag, especially on panel steel.

I picked up an old Italian 160 A tig for 360 bucks only to find the DC stick mode was the only working.
being good with electronics I rebuilt the tig controller board. (15V TO 220 reg was broken off, board was cracked halfway, LV transformer had broken
legs, someone drilled out the gas solenoid valve, some stupid non function mod with LEDs?, dry joints)
Well it works now, just haven't seen a descent mask yet. and haven't got a argon bottle yet.
First thing first, concrete in the shed. That come early spring, the weather it too shit atm.

Man if That was in my area I'd be all over it like stink. I've hit a few tafes up around the area but they are not real interested. They just say
