Flamin Tiki hits the track

The "Flamin Tiki" drag buggy of Shane Hobson hit the track at Sydney over the weekend. After sorting out a couple of bugs (like snapping the handle off the shifter pulling 4th gear) shane completed 2 very clean passes on Sunday. The Buggy went nice and straight and handled well considering the track conditions were cold and overcast.

You know you have built something special when the Lammatina Top Fuel team who are beside you in the staging lanes are amazed at the Buggy. Phil Lammatina stopped taking track notes on the first pass on Sunday to check out Shanes car and Aaron Hambridge (lammatina's new crew cheif and Top Alcohol driver) was "Blown" away by the supercharged buggy, even offering some nitro to give it a little more kick.

Shane's pass of 12.4 @ 108mph is a good drive and great starting point. With lots more to learn about the car the times will drop. Well Done "Magilla"

Hey Too Cranky, were you sideways or backwards breaking the beam at the finish ?
Its good to see the freaky tiki sorry flamin tiki on the track, some of us know the effort that has gone into this build & the reactions from other racers & spectators alike prove it was well worth the effort.
We all look forward to the times tumbling as Shanes gets more track time.

Thanks guys for all your posts of support. What a weekend!

Saturday proved to be a test for all drivers especially for those powered by flat fours. Some drivers required there dancing shoes as Cold afternoon track temps left them in a spin.

Luckless Saturday was followed by smiles on Sunday with my little buggy making some pleasing progress. Whilst the car still has a long way to go before it proves itself. I'm exited at the potential of my ride.

The weekends results only become what it has because of a close group of supporters from the vw scene and the wide sydney drag racing community. Thank you all for you help on the weekend and along the build. Thanks to my sponsors CBB , LMS and Coggee Methanol to name just a few. (Full list below)

For the numbers people like dangerous the run details are below.

R/T - 0.356
60' - 1.872
330 - 5.284
1/8 - 7.958
mph - 93.05
k/mp - 149.76
1000 - 10.364
1/4 - 12.409
mph - 108.20
k/ph - 174.14

I was particularly surprised with the 60' time considering i drove it out of the hole (not launched) and had clutch slip thru 1st and second.

Guru Henry, Thanks foryour help. I look forward to the day I can line up beside you there's plenty of room in super sedan for more buggies H. Then that form and fee can be tested. What ever you might be driving I'm sure you will teach me a lesson.

Regards
Magilla Gorilla

Here is a video of Shanes Last run

http://youtu.be/AxP4cOLkBJo

Not a bad 1/8th mile Aaron considering the clutch slip. Once car and driver get acquainted it should see some much better times

Thanks for your compliments venFun10.

Car weights 1204 pound or 547kg Plus driver and I'm a big boy so add 105kg for me.
We havent had her on the dyno yet, Were not worried about hp at the moment as we want to make sure the chassis is dialed in first. Trying to keep such a short car straight and safe will be a handful. The key i think will be clutch slip and suspension setup.
If i can do this breaking into the 10's shouldn't be out of the question anything else is a dream.

Looking forward to more seat time at Warwick Unfortunatly work comes first at the moment and i cant see myself getting out before then.

Warwick is over for another year. Congrats to all racers for outstanding results. I did't get to see much racing over the weekend but what i saw was some outstanding racing. The times are getting hotter every year. Cant wait to see what next years venture onto Sydney has install. Big thanks to all the Cbb crew for their efforts over the weekend. Especially to Mike, he worked long and hard on our cars for months leading up to Warwick. Wish we could have delivered better results for you mate but it wasn't our weekend.

The team fell a week or two short of delivering its 5th all out drag car in as many years with a new car for Russell Sarten making the trip regardless of being incomplete. Russell wanted to show of his new car as a thankyou for the hard work from the Cbb Team.

Two cranky spent time adjusting the suspension for its new springs, ladderbar changes inproved the handling but the car still struggled for traction. Glad you resisted the temptation to peddle a loose car through the finish, While it can be spectacular we know from experience how fast things can get out of hand. So I'm proud of you big brother for thinking about mums ticker.

The Dave Stoker - Lms Engineering car, What can you say about that. I think that dave crossed paths with a black cat, broke a mirror or something similar. While pre race fire ups and checks always looked good by the time the car got its chance to prove itself at the line, The team gremlin found pleasure in teasing the boys with a sticky accellerator, fuel leaks, etc. Heads up boys it can only get better.

My car Flamin Tiki started the weekend with a promising personal best run off the trailer 7.666 @ 93.94mph 1.8 60ft. Further runs saw improvement off the line to the 60 with a best reaction time of .488 and 1.57 60ft but sometime after our first run third gear went missing leaving my to roll through the line. Only to return selecting freely at the pits after each run. On a possitive note I'm slowly learning to get my big foot of the clutch, not an easy task when you knees are around your ears already.

Chris Holland watched from the sidelines on the weekend, I know your disappointment mate but you did the right thing choosing to investigate a last minute problem rather than risk potential disaster. Next time mate.

Henry as always stood up and showed us youngsters how its done. Papa Smurf was consitantly fast all weekend. Best comment for the weekend was overhearing one onlooker pass commend as he saw henry spicaks name saying. (Man that guys good, I remember watch him at caslereagh way back when.)Best thing about that comment is that your still the racer that we all want to race but fear the outcome.

Ryan Haymens took his street car along once again to play, laying down respectable times, burnouts and driving back onto the trailer ( hope you didn't run out of fuel on the trip home mate or was that surposed to be a secret.)

The Twins were not present on the weekend, Selflessly Mike has sidelined racing the ghia for the past season to build and prep team and customers cars for both road and track. Thanks mate for putting us first I know you enjoy building and watching us race but i think its time to re ignite your passion by bring the beast back to life.

forgive me I have left out times because i can gaurantee that ill stuff them up. I'm better with paint than I am with numbers and spelling for that matter. lol

Thanks to Craig and the Warwick drag club for such a wonderfull weekend, Thanks also to Steve and the rest of the Gringos for your help and friendship,I hope you guys had a safe return trip. Once again thanks to the CBB crew the below sponsors for your support and a special thanks to our Wives/Girlfriends for letting us out to play.
