New seats - lap sash mounts moved back
Hi guys i am painting my stripped pan wednesday night and have removed the stock rails, and welded some tabs further back so that i can mount a new
seat back further. i have not done anything about the lapsash belt mounts though. i was thinking if i weld a nut into the tunnel before painting it
will save me a lot of trouble later? is it a capitive nut??? suggestions here? i was thinking the outside i can plate to the floor or off a rear roll
bar if i put one in??? what do you think?

Okay i,ll ask the obvious question, why are you wanting to mount your seat further back?.
Are you very very tall?
Consult the CAMS manuel in regards to seat mounts and seat belt mounts,

Normal method is bolts through the floor plan, and reinforcing plates on the underside at each point.
Like Col says tho, check the CAMS regs... they're VERY specific about seat and harness mountings, and quote all the measurements for reinforcing
plates, bolt sizes and grades etc.
Also talk with your engineer re road legality... seats and harnesses need to be ADR approved, and mountings need to be engineered.

13. COCKPIT/DRIVER’S COMPARTMENT
13.5 Seats: The driver’s seat may be replaced with one in compliance with Schedule C (refer “General
Requirements for Cars and Drivers”). Original seat mountings not part of the bodyshell may be replaced and/
or other mountings added provided that they extend no further than 50mm from the plan view of the seat. All
other seats, and associated seat belts are free.

RATIONALE:
To provide for a tailored seat mounting arrangement for FIA 8862-2009 standard seats in
place of the original homologated brackets, whilst ensuring strength levels are maintained via
the CAMS homologation process.
ACTION:
Amend Schedule C, Article 7 as follows:
7. only with such replacement seat which in closed cars first registered with CAMS after 1
January 1980, and in
which the relevant regulations permit the replacement of the driver’s seat:
• incorporates a head restraint;
• does not incorporate adjustment of the rake of the squab;
The use of a seat to the FIA 8862-2009 Advanced Racing Seat standard is
recommended. Where a seat to this standard is required, the seat shall be used with
the seat mount bearing the same FIA homologation number unless an alternative seat
mount has been homologated by CAMS, in which case that seat mount may be used.

Also you of course know that your car meets all of the General Requirements for Vehicles, sched's A through N hey. Sched I for example is just about
seat belts and harnesses...
(figure you do already now, but figure also worth mentioning for ppl who stumble across this thread with a search later on)

So can i just weld in a nut to the tunnel? If so what is it called and can i get one freely?

If not i will just drill a hole into the tunnel and plate it both sides.

Sched I point 2.
A safety harness shall be mounted as per one of the following:
(a) on a series production automobile, any unmodified seat belt mounting point may be used;
(b) where a safety harness is affixed to an un-reinforced section of the body shell, each attachment point shall be
reinforced by the use of a plate not less than 75mm x 50mm x 3mm thick as per drawing I-4;
(c) to the safety cage; or
(d) to a substantial part of the automobile structure
If you weld a nut into the tunnel, it wouldn't meet that 'unmodified mounting point' clause.
I also don't think a scruit would accept a nut inserted through a hole and welded in as being a substantial part of the structure... after all, how
can you be sure it won't pull through under load ??? That V8 Supertaxi crash down at Winton the Kelly car they recorded something like neg 32 G...
that's over 3 tonne of load...
I'd be mounting through the floor with reinforcing plates.... exactly as is in my car and has been engineered, scruit'd zillions of times, and even
once relied on in a thankfully minor crash.

Tell me about it proably when i finally get some paint on this pan. Going to a workshop tonight so i can prime one side, other side next night, then
paint this weekend... Got parts pics etc so will put up soon.

Sides what have you done about a tow hook. How did you mount it and not intefere with the guards or the anti roll dar mounts? I dont want to go too
low as i need the minimum height to e 100mm right.
