twin turbo ej20 no loom.
There is a tasty ej20TT on ebay that i am interested in, but does not come with its loom. it is a 2001 B4 ej206 TT. does it need the specific loom
from the car or can i get a similar one modified to suit for conversion into a T3.

You have two options.
Either find a factory loom, ecu, ignition etc.
Pros - Built in security, cheaper, its factory.
Cons - It will be dificult to locate and fit it.
Aftermarket loom, ecu etc.
Pros - Any decent auto sparky or yourself can fit it. Easily available.
Cons - Will be pricier to do.
You'll find that most people will advise you to not get a TT motor. The single or non turbos would be a much better option for your application.

They are a great motor - just depends if you can get everything working OK as well. In addition to the loom and ECU, you need the 'box of death'
wchich is a black box that contains all the ports and valves that open and close and run the sequential twin turbo system. And you need a vacuum
canister that is usually mounted under the guard of the car.
If you can't get all this and still want the motor, then convert it to a single turbo (easy) and run a WRX loom and ECU.

Wreckers selling crate engines like that are really only useful to people with a twin turbo Subi that needs a new engine so the engine itself can just
be swapped over.
Without all the loom and computer forget it, as Todd said there is a huge black box of doom with those motors that controls the sequential turbo
setup.
They are severely over complicated but to convert to single isn;t a small job either, you'd need a single turbo manifold, turbo, loom setup, remove
all the vac hoses and valves, black box of doom, oil lines, water lines etc.
I just watched the boys at the subi garage here swap one into a Liberty and it was painful.
Also the secondary turbo interferes with VW starter motors.
They are an impressive setup when everything is working right, that small turbo brings boost on nice and quick from down low and then the bigger one
cuts in for the top end but once all the vacuum controls start giving grief and they don't make boost right they are just horrible.

Precisely why they should never be used with nasty VW starter motors and gearboxes. he he
I dunno about how hard it would be to convert to single. I reckon you could remove the primary turbo and block off the exhaust flange to it, block off
the primary oil and water feeds and drain. Then remove the exhaust flapper valve inside the exhaust leading to the secondary turbo and you're just
about there. If you've got the later model waste gated one. There's a valve that lets boost into the intercooler from the secondary turbo which
could be removed or swapped onto the intercooler input from the primary.
All the above is if you are a cheapskate.
Save yourself the trouble and get a single turbo motor. Unless you're a lunatic like me. I've got a twin turbo for my Manx. Stupid.
