type 3 case question
I was working on a type3 fastback auto a while ago that had a knocking noise in the engine so I found a cheap healthy beetle engine to change over to
type 3 cooling/carbs etc. When fitting the modified engine to the auto I had trouble tightening the bolts to the flex plate, thats when I noticed the
type 3 case had a cutout section at the back on the bottom. Are these access slots exclusive to autos? Sorry but I'm used to working on manuals. I
ran out of time to get the fastie sorted ( its interstate) but I will be bringing it home soon and will need to get it going again. If I cant get the
beetle engine to work I might have to get the original engine rebuilt....Thanks for any help with information

yep the cut out is exclusive to autos
u can get a spanner in ther on a non auto engine but its MUCH harder to do

Thanks vw54 had a feeling that was the case. When I first started the engine there was a bit of a grinding noise that turned out to be the bolts not
screwed all the way in. MUCH SWEARING
