Repairing Universal joints?

Has anyone on here ever repaired a UJ on the steering? Through no fault of the seller I have the wrong steering shaft complete with uj's. The UJs have a lower range of movement for the earlier steering box type and the shaft itself is much shorter than the later type but the 'cross' is the same size and it's the cross on mine that has broken so before I send the shorter one back I'd like to know if anyone has been able to pull one apart? BTW please excuse the lack of knowledge of the correct term for the cross:blush:

I do not think you can get a rebuild kit for the uni, you can purchase a shaft complete, i had a look at the one i have and it is pressed together, i have some of a mazda MX5 uni's and these are a seperate so you can make the shaft any lenght you like.
