Patina / Rust / Penetrol

Hi Has anyone had experience with any products for coating their Rat?

ie: to protect the rust finish?

I have heard of various waxes, and have heard of a product called Penetrol...

Has anyone used it?

How should one apply it?

I use penetrol at work and it is a good product. Although I dont have a rat with surface rust, thats what I would use. It stops the rust from developing any further but dries clear. I'm not sure whether it would be too glossy after a couple of coats, so I would do a test sample first. Cheers. Greg

It can be applied with a low pressure spray gun or brush. Brush is the easiest method, and can be buffed back a little with a rag.

It goes a long way, doesn't need to be applied often. Depends where you live and what look you are after.

Thankyou! :)

All over the painted areas, as you would a clear coat.

I would assume that if you're trying to protect rusty or baremetal areas, you would strip the vehicle back to bare metal before paint anyway, so it shouldn't really matter.

penetrol is at bunnings in 2 x sizes in the paint sections
with paint preparation products

I have no idea about ankor wax

-- decided not to use penetrol on my new car as i didn't like the way it discoloured the original paint if it got on it.
-- not sure if i wanna put wax on my new car, as it's only got a few places with bare metal, so i might just use PAINT.. interesting thought.

My Son uses lanolin on his 55 beetle...

its just oil from wool... so it protects the metal and paint...

applies it a couple of times a year...

car never looks shiny as the paint isn't shiny..

but it repels water and moisture...
