Stainless Steel Bolt Kits for VW's

Stainless Steel Bolt Kits

Hi all,

In the process of restoring my car I ran across a place in England called Volksbolts who do complete bolt kits for VW's.

These guys are the BEST ...good prices, unreal packaging and service ..less than one week from the UK to Brisbane ...check it out if you need to replace your old, worn bolts and screws!
They are on EBay .... well worth the money!

what are they rated to? does it come with a tube of neverseize or similar so you can get them back out next year? stainless touching steel can get ugly in a year without it...

Yes I have heard good things about them but nothing about the long term stability of SS in against mild steel.

i work with both, without grease/neverseize/threadlocker it will be a pain to take out later, either stripping threads, snapping bolts or rusting captive nuts free so you cant get it out without cutting heads off, trust me, use something between the two or stock up on drills, easy outs, helicoils & a tap & die set :)

sounds like the standard steel bolts may have been a better option then. do they do steel bolt sets too?

[size=4]Yes,
I have seen them on Ebay...
I used zinc coated high tensile bolts in My beetle along with anti seize.. but all the bolts in My beetle came out OK... none broken off etc... was a WA dry area car...

the zinc coated HT bolts would be much cheaper than high tensile stainless steel ones..
I have also used some HT stainless steel bolts in My car... hexagon and allen key headed.

I haven't any problems with bolts breaking off yet on the few pans I have dropped.
Have had one or two tight ones though.

The thing I like about those ss bolt kits for them is the load spreaders. They look beefy as and are also ss. :D

yay!

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-Type3-Variant-STAINLESS-Body-Pan-Bolts-Washers-...

stupid thing is, I look at my quarter panel bolts and they look brand new!
Will be a shame to change to ss just because they are not ss.
see :D

i would not use stainless bolts in a steel body at all to bolt stuff up, the difference in they're make up will cause corrosion in the weaker metal, (that being the steel).
STIDUB has got it right.
use some never-sieze or something of the like.
i use zinc coated bolts, they do the trick well:tu:

Guys stainless bolts sound good in theory because they won't corrode, which is true if they are on their own. But couple them up with a steel body and you will induce corrosion, galvanic corrosion. Read here for more info

http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=98

Zinc plated or galvanized is they way to go.

only if in liquid solution containing ions.

if its dry no prob, clean neutral water should be fine too.
