That's ridiculous. I don't care if it's a 100 point restoration or an original car in mint condition, a '60s bus is just not worth $200k! At all!
You could easily buy four very nice split-window Type 2s for that.

you could buy say for example a bmw 7 series with all the con's for $250.000 odd dollars
and in 3 yrs time the dealer will offer you a trade in value of $34.000 .a guy i used to work with's father
did that same thing.next valuation came when he traded it in for an audi and got $25.000 for it
nobody would touch the car private see he had to take what the car was worth.
they don't make these vw's anymore so someone with the money will pay a premium
over the odd's to us. but it's their money and choice these vehicles were considered worthless for many years

Try thinking like a multi millionaire or even a billionaire. Some of these guys generate that kind of money in a few hours or a day. So they've paid
for it from the time they go to bed to the time they wake up in the morning.
All the VW community & magazines in the States thought it was crazy madness when comedian and Porsche collector, Jerry Seinfeld started buying up
perfect examples of genuine rust free, unrestored, original paint 23 micro's back in the nineties for around 50-60k. Now you couldn't get the same
type of car for less than 100 grand. Mr Seinfeld made a good investment. And time will probably tell that this was a good investment as well.
Money loses value over time guys, It's called inflation and sooner or later this will end up looking like a pretty sweet deal.
Reply to this in ten years time if you can buy the same car for less money.

mmm worth 217, well someone paid for it. prices do seem to be climbing right now, i would not pay that much, but the labour required at retail prices
for a quality resto does make these things very expensive.
people pay "extra or over the odds" if they really want something, think real estate or even an auction bidding war..
many on this forum would not pay $1 for a $10 item, even if they did and got a bargain, whinging would ensue lol

I agree with most that it is probably good for us VW enthusiasts, I will never have that type of money but at least I can justify to the wife if
someone is prepared to pay that for an old kombi then the $$$ I am spending on my beetle is justified lol

Only $750K I saw a report on one that made the million, some people have got too much money. Did you hear about the Ferari that was knocked off in
Newie couple of nights ago, talk is that Mr. Tinkler spent 12 months getting it made to measure and had it only 4 (?) days b4 some low life knocked it
off and burned it to the ground. (off topic I know)
