Advice on anti seize .... please
Hi .. now that I have committed myself to using some stainless steel bolts any advice on the best anti seize to use ..Loctite??
I know I am stupid but all I want is the best for my baby!

no ...
loctite will only stop the bolts from undoing...
it locks them on....
Use a Neverseize or a Copper type of neverseize in spray cans
or wipe on type...
these stop the bolts from binding onto the steel nuts...
use with flat and spring washers and they won't come off..

I have used loctite products with success...
if You don't want the bolts to unscrew...
it can also make the bolts very difficult to undo....
especially small screws and bolts..

yes loctite 771 works well.....there are cheaper options etc that come in "bulk" conatainers. can't recall the brands at the moment

Copper coat grease is pretty good for a lot of things.
Can be used on threads for anti seize, especially exhaust system bolts, because even once any grease burns away, a coat of copper is still remaining.
Also used on some gaskets.
Good on spark plug threads.
Maintains good electrical contact due to the copper content.
Light smear on the back of brake pads to help reduce or prevent squealing.
Dont use on bearings.

I have been told that nickel anti seize is the goods ... this one .... LOCTITE 77164 NICKEL ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND ....has anyone used this before?
Thanks for the discussion guys ..all this really helps ...I do not want to go the other way and spend heaps of $$$ just on broken bolts .... I am a
litle anal of what needs to be done and more than anal on doing the right thing ...so again .. all advice is very warmly received!

tap threads out by hand with trefolex DONT use a drill, dont even get it warm, the stuff is toxic if heated, smells bad enough when cool anyway!
then use bostick never-seeze and in 10yrs time when you need to take something out again & it comes out like the day you put it in remember who
said it

I have an original can of 'Neverseeze" which is at least 30 years old. I use it all the time and it is still half full.
A little goes a long way.
It is a nickel based product and i will swear by it. I use it on anything that is going to get a hard time from heat, moisture etc.
It is a must on all alloy head spark plugs.
I have used coppercoat before and it seems ok, but I prefer the nickel based stuff.

Neversieze is good gear. Same as Lucky Phil - had the same tin for many years. Be careful tho, you only need to look sideways at the stuff and its
all over you. Bitch to get off too.

probably didn't.. lol
many never seizes have metallic particles in it...
loctite low strength threadlocker is ok to stop nuts from coming off bolts etc... its just a plastic type of stuff that goes hard and acts like a self
locking nut.. there was medium and a strong one too... I'm talking 15 years ago ...lol
and most of those products weren't safe...
they maybe now...??
but neverseize is usually ok.. I believe...
I use it when torquing up bolts & nuts...

Lee. Loctite don't just make threadlocking compound. They have a massive variety of products from glues, threadlocking, antiseize, gasket makers, and
puttys, etc etc.

And having gone on that little excursion away from the topic... You can always trust someone to fly off on a tangent with rhetoric or a well debunked

But... the answer to the original question is yes! Loctite is one of the best Nickel-based anti-sieze compounds to use, but really there arent many
brands on the market and its not the sort of thing that cheap manufacturers are interested in. The other brand readily available in Nickel-based is
Permatex. And for copper based anti-sieze compounds you can get one called Copper-Coat.
A 200g (240ml) container will probably outlest several generations of your family. Its used sparingly.
As for galvanic reaction when using stainless in proximity to other metals, be aware that it can accelerate the corrosion on other materials. For
example, a zinc plated washer under a stainless nut or bolthead may look like crap after only about 12 months.
