Nothing exciting happening here......

Last night Bluey's old engine was removed and stripped of all the bits that will be used on the new engine, carbs, tin, exhaust, full-flow system and oil pump etc etc..

The workshop is absolutely chockers, Volksies stacked and racked everywhere so our plate is definately full up this way.

Since the last up-date, bottom end has been dummy assembled and deck-heights done, so with the info the head mods have been confirmed for compression ratio flycut. Pistons and cylinders are at Competition Coatings getting some attention, the rotating assembly has been balanced, the last pieces for the puzzle have been ordered from the US of A so things are ticking along nicely.......how long have we got?:smilegrin::lol:

Seats are unfortunately quite heavy, but they are extremely comfy, so I'm happy so far. CB John pressed up these great side panels so I just attached them to shortened og runners from Al. Thanks guy's.

so what is the gain of all the "inside case polishing" work ? I understand that the oil will run down quicker, but is it worth all the man hours for the gain ?

Thanks Tarin....plenty to do yet :)

The internal case work is something I do to varying degrees on all my engines.
It starts with clearancing and deburring, that then leads to improving internal air-flow by radiusing the edges under the barrel seats and around the bearing saddles. A little more detailing and removing excess material also helps windage but also helps remove case stress risers. Plus I love engines and making them the best I can and the magnesium alloy feels beautiful when polished :)
So it's a three edged sword (can you have that?)....oil flow/return, reduction in windage and increasing strength of the case.

Cam is interesting, funny how it is VERY close to the GB310 we put in Cols 2332 with similar heads.

Heads are Los Panchitos from CB Performance. 40 x 35.5, 174cfm @ .500 IIRC. I have upgraded them to Manley valves and JPM dual springs/titainium retainers, also flycut chambers to 48cc to increase compression. Yes, thats how they come from CB, the marks are from the CNC cutters, same as on thier 044's, quite a course finish but takes no time to tidy up. Some of the finish is desired in the intake.
I definately prefer the VW castings of the 043.
