IRS conversion to Oval floor pan issues


Hi Guys,

I've converted the gearbox from swing axle to single side plate IRS, i've mounted the trailing arm brackets etc and everything is fitted. The issue i have is the CV joints rub on the engine mounting forks, can this be cut out and if so will it compramise the strength of the forks? Can i simply heat them up and pound them down? whats the best plan of attack here? Anyone?

heat & hit with your favourite FBH :)
or, cut minimal amount out & shape a section to replace that hugs the CV
depends how much work you want to do, most ive seen/heard of are heat & hit jobs though

Yup Heat and HIT, use a bar that will give you a nice shape though, Stops all the little hits that will look crappy.

Don't forget to weld up the side of the forks once you have hit them as they will open up, rust and split. Also remember to modify your shock towers as the IRS arms will hit on up travel and if you have stock rear brake lines on them they will get squashed.

Good call Brad, just notices some marks on the shock mounts that were caused by the spring plate bolts hitting them. Im guessing i can just clearance that area out with a grinder?

Also hadn't thought about the brake pipes either, thanks guys

Do you think it's neccessary to have some sort of mount/support to support the forks in the event they may be weakened by the flatter forks?
