65 Euro Beetle - For Sale
Selling my 65 Euro Beetle which I bought a year and a half ago. Came from Tassie, some of you will know it. Had been in the hands of its owner for a
long time, if not from new, (don't know), until a few years ago and was in really nice gently aged condition. All there and a very honest little car.
Had been in Tassi all its life. Bit of a time capsule. Has had bits of paint over the years but mainly original stuff.
Boccino's had recently done brake hoses, starter motor, steering damper, Clutch and servicing.
Being German built, it's a bit different to our locally assembled cars. In 65 they went to bigger windows which we didn't see until 68 on the first
of our 12 Volt cars. So to us it's pretty much 6V bottom half and 68 top half. There are heaps of little differences, (and you're free to show off
and list them all) , which make the car a bit special here.
Thought it was a great base to bring back to life, because it was already a pretty thing and drove like a bought one. Drove it with four adults on
board from Hobart to the boat. Autobarn gearbox is easy going at highway speed.
Showing 18,300 miles on the clock and while I don't have any evidence that the odo is accurate, the car drives and feels like the mileage displayed.
The steering wheel rim is still clean and smooth and shows no sign of wear.
Planned to restore the interior, which had the original German cloth, to original but just couldn't find the original cloth anywhere. The front seats
were incorrect and from an early beetle so I was snookered into doing an all new job on the seats.( see pics below). Found and rebuilt the correct
seats, used 3 new coconut fibre pads and new set of TMI special order covers front and rear with cards to match.
The headliner is really nice for age, still don't know whether to replace it or not and the carpet was still good but with the new upholstery I
thought it would look a bit daggy so I've done a German Square Weave kit in Brown with Beige herringbone binding. The Brown GSW is NOS and NLA and
JWTDO with the new upholstery. German prod only too.
Mechanically I've had the Gearbox rebuilt by Dale at Tucker Road because it was a bit slow going back into second so figured it best to do the lot
and get it over with.
Had Beige running board mats from new and Off-White Guard Beading. I've replaced both with new. New Stainless trims too.
Has a new screen to go in, new tyres, new battery and is a windscreen washer switch from roadworthy.
I need the space it's sitting on more than I need the car now so I figured I'd put it up in it's current condition with the option to buy as is, or
finished.
I have a headliner to go in but have been agonising as to whether to touch the original, so maybe someone else can make that call.
Lovely car to enjoy now and detail as you go. If you feel you need to. It drives beautifully. Mechanicaly sweet and reliable. Deserves a good home.
$15,000 or offer finished with new interior including headlining and Vic roadworthy and 12 mths reg.
$Less with new interior ready to fit and original headliner.
