Dunno how much hes gonna charge me...Im doing some deal with him as he wants some car parts that I have..His turn around will be quite long at the moment cause his partner has had back surgery and he has to help her out. He lives at Blewitt Springs (or the top of willunga hill). If you get stuck for a paint job I'll let him know but he wont be reliable at the moment due to his partners health.

Ah, fair enough!

I'll see if I can get a couple of the boys around and do it here, but with the current weather it is somewhat hard to even consider doing the job without the proper facilities and just in my back yard.

Being white..just have a go yourself in acrylic..Spray heaps of coats and allow to harden..when you block it back it will come up killer!.Maybe lay down a coat or two of white primer as white covers better over a white primer than grey.

Well more gear has been ordered for the wifes mobile and is getting closer to being taken away for a new donk..gear purchased included a 1.5 Quart CB Performance sump, Scat Red Anodised Surpentine belt setup,009 dizzy and Accufire Direct Ignition Sysytem for the 009..which will be cool..having no rotor, points or cap. Also coming is a number plate surround from the states ECONO motors..It has Riverside Centre on the top and Econo motors on the bottom..I just had to buy it!:lol:..all thats left to buy is the tin ware and an inch and 5-8ths merged headers and phat boy muffler..I should have also bought a VW instead of the mazda..they definately have uber cool parts available and very addictive!..Im glad I made her keep her first car she loves it and will never part with it..Cant wait to finish it all (well a project never finishes!) and see her cruising it in summer.

Well..discovered a nasty suprise yesterday...After stripping out the firewall insulation to polish the firewall paintwork, I discovered that the firewall under the rear window is rusted out including the luggage area!.. Luckily the replacement panel is available and on order from George at Classic Veedubs and should arrive in 2 weeks..

So in the mean time I am taking the motor out and looking to remove the luggage area/firewall panel ready for the car to be sent off to a crash shop for them to plug weld in a new one..while there Im going to get them to paint the engine bay in Antarctica White 2 pak, ready for the rebuilt motor. So looks like the motor is coming out real soon and will be sent off seperate without the car. Hopefully the repairs to the car will be done quickly and then the car can be trailered up to Peter Debiasi so he can refit the motor and get it running..Busy times ahead!!

Hey!

Quick question, what do the pulley kits achieve? I see that extra little pulley, where does that mount?
Is it mainly for looks?

The extra tensioner pulley mounts off the two front bolts of the generator stand I think. The ribbed serpentine belt is supposed to be quieter, last longer and is suitable for higher revving engines. The kit was cheaper from the states landed than buying one here so I thought..why not! Easier to set the belt tension too..You cant go wrong with billet and anodised parts anyway!..lol

Finally pulled my finger out of my proverbial and removed the motor from the wifes Dub. Now I've gotta sort through the bits and pieces and clean the generator and stand back up and I am reusing them as the genny is a brand new Bosch and not worth throwing away to go a taiwanese alternator..and If I really get bored i've got the Malleys esky to restore aswell!..

Recieved all my new tin work today..36HP Doghouse shroud and twin port tins. These will be sent off tommorrow to get garnet blasted and powdercoated in a graphite grey ripple finish.
http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss283/psirx7/tin1.jpg

Due to the quality of thin steel used for the generator tin work on the aftermarket gear..I have opted to use the original tinware for the generator as its alot thicker pressed steel.

Yeah, the alternator was actually quite interesting. It's a 75amp one, but seems to have some of it's internals knocking... Or my pulley is knocking on something. Will have to get Siggy at GHR to take a look when I put her in for a service.
Other than that, everything is in and fine, loving life without the battery dying when idling and listening to music!

I haven't upgraded the wires yet actually, at the moment they're the same except for where I bypassed the external regulator under the rear seat.
Was quite easy to do, just needed to use a little creativity and so forth.

Also picked up my re-garnet-blasted and re-powdercoated empi tinware today..the finish was ten times better than the original finish and was worth the extra coin. They are Gloss Black. The pics dont do them justice!.
Also paid for the luggage repair panel for the beetle too so just tying up a few loose ends and the car will go off for the luggage panel rust repair and 2 pack engine bay respray in Antarctica White and the engine will head off to the Debiasis' for some loving..getting REAAALLY close now:cool:.

Bought a couple of gauges for the wifes Dub..Autometer American Muscle gauges electric short sweep. Oil pressure and volts. Oil temp for some reason is harder to find and not available in most series of gauges.
I was looking at the Odometer aswell but the wife wants to keep the factory odometer.
I want to mount them using something similar to the AIRKEWLD under steering column gauge holder at the moment they are not available for later model bugs..

http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss283/psirx7/ff3.jpg

Also my parts from AIRKEWLD arrived today!..A billet fuel pump block off and a billet dizzy clamp with degree markings, both anodised red to match the Scat Serpentine pulley kit...

The only things Im really waiting on to arrive are my chrome 85 amp alternator and stand, fuel tank spiggot and outlet from the tank and gaskets and engine seals around tin work and over the bellhousing. The motors pretty much ready to go off for a rebuild i reckon:cool:.

Southern Crash and Custom at Seaford are doing the work..Its just the owner Adam and his apprentice.Hes not a big crash shop but he gives a shit and is a great guy. He does more custom work and restos rather than insurance work. He just restored a mates Datto 1200 wagon and I was impressed with his work..
The crash shop is removing the rear floor and firewall, replacing with a panel I supplied, etch priming all work, painting and repairing the luggage panel both inside and under the car, and smoothing out the engine bay and respraying all in 2 pak.

Keep at it.
