Yes Mick

collapsible steering columns were installed from 1968>ON
on NON Super Beetles...

its a good idea to fit these on Early beetles too...

the SUPERS had uni joints in their steering...

isntead of the steering column being a solid bar, its this tube kinda double helix shaped (sorta) thingo, such that if crazy crash loads are applied, the steerign wheel doesn't bash ya in the face. :tu:

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears. :tu:
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!

I also use a collapsible steering wheel in My 68 Beetle...
from a late type 3..

its also designed to collapse if it hits You in the chest...

but that is one of the reasons why We have seat belts..

top stop the Body hitting the steering wheel... lol

here is My collapsible steering wheel designed to be crushed
if Your chest hits it....

from a late type 3..

late beetles also had them but the 76 beetle had a smaller shaft size...
