if your 40hp is good, with a little effort/ingenuity and the same $ you'd spend on a later motor, you could zing up your 1200.
say add some later 1.1:1 rockers, small bore extractors, a home brew twin carb set up. then maybe some 83mm bigbore p&c and if you are keen some
port work.
you will end up with a motor that has ok go and will increase your cars "cool" factor rather than reducing it (IMHO anyway).
