Just fitted empi gt5 rims 5.5 inch with 165/80 front and 195/65 rear. Front seems ok but even with short axles the rear is close.

You can fit 17 x 7 under the rear with spacers,
approx 27 mm from memory,
as seen on the blue / white ghia at this years nats & last years VALLA
Not sure of the tyre size,
i run 195 / 50 / 15 's on my empi's

i got short axles, with wide 5, 6inch ercos with 95mm back space and 195/60/15 tyres on wide type 3 drums dont fit under the rear of my 62 ghia. wot a bummer they stick out by about 40mm. so the guards hit the top of tyres. does anyone know if any of the rear disc kits add or narrow the rear track. thanks greg

Did not realise that the early KG's came with short axles. Is that correct?

well i thought they had short axles. the length between the inside of the rear bearing carrier [that is the back of it closest to the trans] to theoutside of the plate that bolts to the spring plate [that is the side closest to the outside of the car] is 70 mm. please correct me if i am wrong. i thought was short axle..... ok i just pulled of the back wheel .so from the spring plate to the end of the rear axle is about 185mm is yours the same norbet. i am sure this is a short axle. anyone who knows please tell. thanks greg

Greg,
would you be able to have some clearance machined off the inner bolt face of your rims to solve your problem ?
if so, try neale wheels to do this for you,

Sorry grogy, was a question as I have a set of 5.5 mangles with 195/60's that dont fit. I was thinking of buying a set of short axles, but if it already has them there is no point. Does anyone know if they came standard with short axles on the earlier models.

Thanks
Norbert
