circlip on thermostat assembly????

I removed the fan housing from my 58 bug and was wondering if there is a circlip that goes on the end of the thermostat assembly just past the clamp along the shaft. There is a little groove there that looks like it is to fit one but none present. If one does go there does anyone know the size of it.

I assume that this is the throttle ring shaft with the round spring on it,from memory there was a circlip on there and if you should be able to purchase one from Repco or Bursons as a universal type circlip if you measure the shaft size.

The thermostat operates the throttle ring.
