Fan shround and twin dellortos

Hi guys
Which fan shroud can i use to get more clearance where the twin dellortos touch. I just fitted some empi manifolds and cannot get the carbs on. The face where the cold start choke assy fits on the dellortos is hitting the fan shroud and they arent even on the studs. The carbs need to be closer to the centre of the engine by another 30 mm.

Hoping there is a smaller shroud available.

I am running DRLA and they fit a 1600 dog house on CB manifolds - just

I thought only Webers had the cold start stuff and that has to be taken off

You could get a 40HP shroud without the heater horns

Hi

I have twin 40 dels on my sons L bug, they fit nice with a stock fan housing, its all in the manifold. I bought them from Rod Penrose, when I 1st fitted them they were out way to far, Rod swapped manifolds for and the fit sweet now.

Could you machine the intake manifold, or would that pull the carbs out of alignment too much?

It has a 40hp doghouse shroud on it now, i looked in the SAmba website and they mentioned 40 hp doghouse shrouds cause fitment issues with twin Webers and Dellortos and that a 36 hp shroud is alot narrower than the 40 hp.

Even if i take the cold start off they still dont fit, will look at the manifolds in the morning too see if i can angle mill them a little.

If all else fails, engine out and cut and weld the current shroud

Just about any VW workshop will have some. Have you got the correct linkages for the CB manifolds, the type that are cast into the air filter base?

Matt
No linkages, i just took all the stuff from work and i will make up some linkages. We have all the stuff needed for that, R and L dies, rod ends etc etc.

Just want those manifolds

Edit

Want them bad, like right now.

End edit

Can the shroud come off with out pulling the engine.
I cant remember, but you have the two bolts that hold it to the cyl head tins, then there is the oil coller cover,

shroud can come off with engine in car but it;s a painful job. Need decklid hinge brackets off.

Thanks Matt, will have a go at that.

I had a look at an engine today that has two webers and what a magic setup, he used a 36 hp shroud and it gives a stack of room between the carbs and shroud. He even has the choke cables on it and there is still an inch of clearance.

I think i will get one of them shrouds, it just looks alot better .

I think I had the CB's with a standard super fan shroud with 40 dells. The carbs just touched the site of the fan shroud. I just got a ball peen hammer and gave it a few small taps to give me 5mm clearance.

I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Hey bix

Ye i know, with the right manifolds they fit but thats with taking the choke of completely, she needs a choke where we live, so i ordered a 36 hp shroud today, much much better fit can be seen on the many pics at the samba.

Thats it Matt.

That there is a shit load easier to do and it looks dam good and gives a heap of clearance. I reckon its the only way to go.
