Well listed on Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-VEEDUB-VOLKWAGEN-BEETLE-1971-BLACK-SUPER-BUG-18...
and tho had 57 watchers, no one bid !
So I am thinking it must be too much, even tho it owes me more. Anyway I am gonna relist at $2,000 starting bid in a week or so.
But thought would offer here first again to fellow VeeDubbers.

1971 Superbug 1800cc
I have an 1800 super bug not registered but nearly ready for it, (last registered 2007) with a fully restored engine with Cranky kit starter. Needs
new exhaust as has a hole in it. Starts first time every time even when left standing for awhile. Has no rust at all (Well serious rust for its age
that is) and interior good with Porsche Dash instruments. Bought as first car for wife but she wants an auto. So now bought her one and cant keep
this, Her new car and and my Kombi. Plus I have nowhere under cover to keep it now.
I will try to provide as much information as possible.
The engine is an 1800 and I have replaced spark plugs points, fuel and oil filters and oil. I dont think I really needed to as when i bought it a
couple of years ago. All of these including oil looked new, and metal filter in sump was totally clean. Not sure when engine was rebored but is a
strong motor.
The steering was very loose and I replaced the steering box and joints, as well as fitted a Cranky kit & new battery (Still has some warranty left
I think?. The Starters on Beetles have the front bush in engine housing and very hard to replace. By fitting a Cranky Kit, (see crankykit dot com)
this allows for a Suburu starter to be fitted, which provides easier fitting & far better power output, plus cheaper replacement if ever needed.
The exhaust is stuffed and has a hole in it. I did purchase a good 2nd hand one, but never actually received it!
It came with a Sports steering wheel and air horns that only made a phht type of noise anyway. So replaced this with a standard horn and the original
Steering wheel for this model. Internal light was broken but worked, so bought a new one and promptly closed door on it whilst fitting ( so still
broken lol) Cost new only $15 anyway. Also had chrome Bonnet strip missing but thats replaced. Tho some pics are prior to it being fitted.
It was already fitted with wide arches (professional and well done job prior to me owning it), and wide wheels fitted to chrome mags. It also has the
wrong engine boot fitted plus wrong badges (shows as VW 1500). Wrong boot is actually a good thing as there are more vents in Engine boot fitted than
original for this model, which means that more air gets to the engine, which is also not the standard size engine at 1800cc. Engine has been fully
restored and rebored from 1600cc, and is GREAT. If someone is looking to return Beetle back to standard, then arches, wheels and Boot (plus badges on
boot), would need to be replaced. But if looking to make Beetle more sporty with better road handling (due to Mcpherson struts with wide wheels as
opposed to narrow ones) then most of work has already been done by previous owner to me.
Paint is OK, not great. And I reckon would look great with a respray. But there is little if anything, that needs to be done for car to be registered.
The person before me fitted a sporty plastic drivers side door mirror. I did not like it and have replaced with original Chrome one, but still has
hole where plastic one was fitted, and I still have sporty mirror, which will come with car.
I would also consider a trade for an older motorbike: BSA, Triumph etc
Comes with:
A 2nd complete set of door and engine Handles plus ignition with all matching keys (Those fitted on beetle are all good but require separate Key for
ignition switch)
Fanbelt, points,+ other assorted bits
Workshop Manual
Spare wheel plus jack

Deposit now taken so looks like it is Sold. Gonna miss it actually but young guys who bought it are gonna really sport her up. One is a spray painter
/ detailer other a mechanic, going in ones parents garage as a project,
They agreed to my price and once agreed i actually took $100 off to ensure they got it towed, was worried they would risk driving it back.
It does drive well tho, and I do hope they keep me informed on progress
Did sell on Fleabay before but never heard from lowlife nill feedback winning bidder
Can a moderator show it as SOLD on main heading please

sold my 71 Superbug to a young guy who is gonna finish customising it with his brother. Owner prior to me had already fitted wide guards, later model
boot with more air vents, porsche instruments and centre consule and 8inch wheels with chrome mags. So was a lot to bring back to standard anyway. And
I invested in a Cranky kit for better starting. Vw Starter motors are a pain with no front bush, as this is on engine. Cranky kits remove these and
allow a subaru starter.
With all mods done for these two it meant a lot of stuff they dont need to buy.
I was pretty sad to see it go, but Gan never wanted it anyway and i did ask if they would send me progress reports.
Never thought they would TBH
BUT... They have been.
They removed foot boards, guards and engine and are at the prep stage of doing the respray in a dark blue. Also going for some body front and rear
dress up parts. So respray will wait for these to arrive.
Whilst engine was out they replaced clutch (not that was needed but easier to replace with new whilst out) and have purchased a dress up kit.
The rust is to say the least minimal as i had said but good to know they never found any nasty shocks.
Here is engine before and after
Will add pics as I get them
Really pleased Bug went to a good home.
They mentioned they will be lowering it. I tried to talk them out of this but we will see i guess
Also Kombi going for a respray on Monday to get ready to put back on road :-)
