Hi all
Can someone tell me if there should be rear seat belts
in a 1962 standard beetle.
If no,t can a passenger just sit in there unrestained??and then fly through the widscreen when the i hit the brakes....

Hey bugmaniaar,
What can I say? Dumb or what - but true.
I suppose just becuase it's not illegal to have people in the back without seatbelts doesn't mean you should.
I've fitted belts for those rare occassions I want to scare the hell out of my kids

Originally there were NO seat belts in Beetles until some time after 1965 .. maybe 1968...
1964-65 beetles had the holes in the body for seat belts but had plastic screws in them...
so, You can drive an early beetle without seat belts..
in QLD You need the get the seatbelts checked with an engineer and have a modification plate fitted..
not sure about other states..

and if the passenger doesn't have a seatbelt they can hold onto the panic handle to stop being thrown thru the windscreen...
lol
the driver holds onto the steering wheel...
Many children grew up sitting in the dicky seat...
behind the rear seat...
it was nice and warm in the winter too... lol
safe in there too... usually
