cost of manual gearbox for 1300 beetle ?

gday all,
I'm interested to know what a manual gearbox is worth to suit a 1300 1967 beetle.
I'm just wondering what it would cost me to get the red 1967 1300 delux running again. The car is on the for sale section from Jared.
It sounds likeI know what I'm talking about but I really have no idea - willing to learn tho ! Any locals willing to help?

cheers,
Aaron

Hey mate. I probably should have put that in the add. I've been quoted $750 Inc labour for a second hand box. That was made up of $400 for the box and $350 labour. for a reco box it would be $900 + labour.

I thought that was a little steep so I've been looking around for a 2nd hand box to throw in it. I figure I can probably find one for $200 or something. Infact the mechanic I got the quote from said if I bought the box by itself with no guarantee and without him doing the work it would be $250. The extra $150 I guess is for the risk that he might have to replace it.

there are plenty of 2nd hand gearboxes about

but finding a good one once they have been taken out of a beetle

can be difficult...

but not too difficult to replace... but a pain if You have put the engine back in... lol

check out: http:www.vw-resource.com/
for info...

or get a few manuals..
